Biography

Heather Archer is the creator of The Promotion Equation™, a practical framework that helps people spot and decline non-promotable work so they can focus on what actually matters to them and moves their careers forward. After more than 30 years in the corporate world, she’s seen firsthand how easily talented professionals - especially women - get buried under tasks that don’t lead to advancement. Her work is all about changing that.

People often describe Heather’s presentation and facilitation style as engaging, real, and refreshingly down to earth. She makes tough topics feel doable and leans into challenging moments alongside participants so no one feels alone. Those moments of solidarity are often where the real breakthroughs emerge.

Heather’s personal motto is: “The more we laugh, the better we can learn.” The number of times she has been asked where she does her standup comedy routine proves that she lives this motto in each and every presentation she gives (but sadly, no, she doesn’t do stand up comedy). Her ability to find the human and the humor, even while presenting on the “hard” topics allows participants to better engage in the new information and with each other.

Her experience is based on an educational foundation which includes a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Organizational Development and Adult Learning. Heather’s flexibility and fluidity allows her to adapt the training topics to fit the needs and experiences of the participants as well as connecting the information to the real world for increased retention.

Based in Maryland, Heather loves exploring the world and sharing her message about the power and freedom that come from the simple act of saying no.

Passion

Helping people "find" more time in their day by teaching them the value and ways to diplomatically decline tasks that do not serve them or their goals. I do this through The Promotion Equation™ program.

Origin Story

I have always been on the lookout for that topic that I could develop and invest my time and energy into as a way to help others. The Promotion Equation™ is that program and came about when 2 things collided in my world. The first was when I read the book “The No Club”. I highly recommend it.

The 2nd was when I started coaching my daughter. She had started a new professional PM job and within a month she was already complaining about how busy she was. Turns out she was busy doing other peoples’ work because they kept asking the new person in the office to help them and she kept saying Yes. Without questions, hesitation, or even considering how it would affect her work.

After spending several months helping her learn how to determine if a task would serve her and then how to diplomatically decline those that did not, I realized that this was something I could formally develop to help others with the same struggle. The Promotion Equation™ was born.

Example Talks

The Pause That Puts You In Control

Advancing your career isn’t just about doing more - it’s about choosing wisely. This keynote reveals how a simple, strategic pause before saying yes can transform the way you work. By learning to identify and turn down tasks that pull you away from high‑impact contributions, you reclaim your time, protect your focus, and strengthen your path to promotion. Participants will walk away with a clearer understanding of how intentional decision‑making fuels visibility, value, and long‑term career growth.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:

1. Identify non‑promotable tasks in your world that dilute focus.

2. Explain how a strategic pause supports smarter work choices.

3. Explain how intentional task selection increases promotion and praise.
