For author Bridgit Dengel Gaspard, the unspoken dynamics between people in art and life has fueled a career of discovering the multiple intelligences we hold the keys to, often without even realizing it.
Surrounded by arts, dramaturgy, music, immersion into Harlem culture where she spent her childhood, and an ascending social justice imperative increased her sensitivity to micro and macro injustices as well as fluctuating status hierarchies. The contrast highlighted truths of societal inequity played out on the world stage, as well as within families, and revealed hidden wisdom in a world of competing agendas for Bridgit.
With her affinity for movement, performance-based improv and an uncanny ability to express unspoken words and unwelcome thoughts in tote, Bridgit co-produced, wrote, and starred in one of the first web series, MUDDERS, the first cyber sit.comedy. Rounding a career corner as an emerging entertainment journalist, Bridgit wrote for Comic Bible, Broadway.com, SHOW BUSINESS, and was the daily correspondent and festival line-producer for Sandy Kenyon of 1010 Wins Radio and Hollywood.com at the Cannes Film Festival (2000 & 2002).
Discovering Voice Dialogue, a process fostering “accessible mental wellness,” created by the Drs. Hal and Sidra Stone, was a career turning-point for Bridgit. Developed since the early 1970s, Voice Dialogue reveals deeply restorative insights about the process of healing. The difference between being a contender or a victor is largely based on our willingness, as well as our access to support for taking the leap and keeping progress moving forward.
As a career in the performing arts gave way to Bridgit’s interest in expressive therapies and the power of creativity, Drs. Hal and Sidra Stone became her mentors. On a new professional trajectory, Bridgit earned an MSW from Columbia University and acquired clinical experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT.) Upon graduation she began a thriving private practice and teaching in numerous professional settings including Omega Institute. In 2005 she founded the New York Voice Dialogue Institute, offering professional training approved for Continuing Education Credits.
The nagging phenomenon that plagued everyone from master-level scholars to peers, and left them ensnared in mirage goals, eventually drove Bridgit to coin the term “the final eighth” which is stalling in sight of life’s finish lines. Beyond defining the stuck point, she eventually unpacked the process of reverse engineering the double bind in her book, The Final 8th: Enlist Your Inner Selves to Accomplish Your Goals.
At the heart of Bridgit’s commitment to the life-changing techniques she teaches and practices, is her devotion to accessible overall wellness. In addition to providing ongoing training for individuals, groups, and organizations, she also offers a free Voice Dialogue Learning Lab on the 3rd Thursday of every month.
To date, Bridgit has written inspirational and educational articles related to health and wellness for a myriad of publications including More.com and Passion Test Daily. She has been quoted discussing selves, “alter egos,” and overall wellbeing in Yahoo! Life, Mashable, AskMen, Real Simple, and a multitude of wellness summits and podcasts. Bridgit currently motivates people’s passion from Brooklyn, New York.
