Biography

Working with adventurers and healers to feel more present, at ease, & connected in the conversations that matter most.

BIO:

Judy K. Herman is a speaker, author, and retreat facilitator who works with adventurers and healers to create peace in their 9-5 workplace and 24/7 home space. Her program bridge the gaps of psychology, neuroscience, and lived experiences in order to enhance relationship with self and others. Meaningful connections and honest conversations are just a portion of her body of work.

With many years of experience in emotional wellness and communication, she empowers participants to recognize patterns that create tension. She then guides them toward more honest, present, and grounded ways of relating.

Her work is not about fixing people or forcing change. It is about creating space for clarity, ease, and connection to grow.

Judy’s talks feel more like an experience than a lesson. Participants slow down, reflect, and connect with themselves and others in a natural way.

She speaks to leaders, therapists, and audiences in travel and hospitality settings. Her sessions are calm, practical, and quietly transformative.

Judy is the author of Beyond Messy Relationships and Relationships with Purpose. She is also the CEO and founder of Relationship Wellness, LLC.

Passion

I thrive on the energy of live and virtual stages, where transformation begins with the ahas and life-giving perspective changes. Neuroscience, psychological insights and ancient wisdom blend together in my work as a seasoned counselor and speaker. I’m most fulfilled when someone says, “Your words changed my life.” My passion is empowering heart-centered professionals to rediscover their dignity, value, and worthiness. I’m honored to spark that awakening from the stage.

Best Story

I used to think being a “good communicator” meant keeping the peace.

You know. It's choosing the right words, softening the message, and making sure no one got upset.

But what I didn’t realize was this. I wasn’t actually communicating.

I was trying to manage something that couldn't be controlled.

Managing reactions.
Managing tone.
Managing emotions that weren’t even mine.

And the result?

Conversations may have looked calm on the surface.
But underneath, they were filled with tension, confusion, and unspoken truth.

That’s what I now call "walking on eggshells."

And here’s the shift that changed everything:

You really can't manage other people’s emotions.
But you absolutely can have a healthy, honest conversation.

When you align with that reality, you actually reduce the very drama you’ve been trying to avoid.

Origin Story

Have you ever walked into a conversation already rehearsing what you’re going to say…
just to make sure the other person doesn’t get upset?

Maybe you soften your words.
Maybe you over-explain.
Maybe you leave the conversation thinking, “That’s not what I meant to say at all.”

That’s what I call walking on eggshells.

And for years, I didn’t just experience that in my work as a therapist; I lived it.

In my own marriage, everything revolved around managing someone else’s emotional state. What we ate, what we watched on TV and how we spent our time. It was all filtered through one question:

“Will this keep things calm?”

And somewhere along the way, I stopped asking a much more important question:

“What’s true for me?”

It wasn’t until after my divorce and I was right in the middle of the grocery store, trying to make decisions about what to put in my cart. That's when I realized:

I didn’t know how to make a simple decision for what I want. I was so used to trying to manage the emotions of others.

That was my wake-up call.

Not just as a woman, but as a therapist who specializes in relationships!

Because I realized something I now see everywhere:

The biggest problem isn’t difficult people.
It’s that we’ve believed in something that's impossible to do. We've tried managing the emotions of others.

And that’s what creates the very thing we’re trying to avoid:

Drama. Disconnection. And conversations that go nowhere.

Now, I work with healers, leaders, and teams do something radically different. And it's changed everything.

Honest conversations without trying to manage other's emotions eliminates drama and aligns us with truth.

Why Your Best People Keep Leaving: A Licensed Therapist's C.A.L.M. Method for Healthier Work Cultures

People don't leave jobs. They leave toxic environments. And in a medical practice, the cost of that exit shows up in patient continuity, provider trust, and the culture you spent years building.

In this session, licensed psychotherapist Judy K. Herman, LPC-MHSP, NCC, brings the clinical lens practice administrators rarely get access to. Drawing from years of counseling managers and team leaders through the patterns they could not name, Judy introduces her proprietary C.A.L.M. Method: Clarify, Awaken, Lift, Master. Four moves any practice leader can make starting Monday morning, without a single new policy memo.

You will leave with language for the difficult conversation, a tool for group communication called the communologue,, and a clearer view of the patterns quietly driving turnover in your practice.

This group asked for specific learning objectives which is common in professional talks like this. . .

By the end of this session, practice administrators will be able to:

  1. Identify the three most common subconscious relational patterns driving voluntary staff turnover in medical practices, including the early-life origins that make these patterns invisible to most leaders.

  2. Apply the four-step C.A.L.M. Method (Clarify, Awaken, Lift, Master) to a current staffing or interpersonal challenge in their own practice, using a structured framework they can implement immediately.

  3. Demonstrate the communal log communication technique to facilitate difficult conversations between providers, administrators, and staff in a way that reduces defensiveness and improves retention.

This is a great talk for dental and medical associations.
