Drea Lynn is an attorney, Fractional COO, business strategist, and author of Smart Quit: Cash In. Clock Out. After rebuilding from six figures of debt to a half-million-dollar consulting business, she created The Smart Quit System to help professionals leave their jobs the right way, with a plan instead of a panic, and to build the business behind what they already know. Her message is written for the break room, not the boardroom. Her DisruptHR talk, Help Them Quit, So They Will Stay, is available to watch at https://vimeo.com/1230565446. She holds a JD from Tulane Law School and an MBA from Florida A&M University. Her mission: help one million people quit smart, build bold, and live free.
Helping frontline workers, first-gen entrepreneurs, and career changers see that the skills they use every shift (solving problems, managing pressure, serving people) are founder skills. You don't need a degree to start a business. You need a plan.
Six-figure salary to six figures of debt, and back to a half-million-dollar consulting business. Drea shares the unglamorous truth of a strategic exit: what she learned on her employer's dime, why she treated her job as development ground instead of a destination, and the 4-phase Smart Quit framework (Prepare, Position, Pivot, Profit) that came out of it.
From the outside, everything looked successful: attorney, COO, leading teams and driving results. But the work no longer aligned with where she was going. Instead of quitting in frustration, she built an exit with intention. That experience became Smart Quit and the system she now teaches.
You already know something people would pay to learn. Most experts never turn it into a business. Not for lack of skill, but because nobody showed them how to package what they know, deliver it, and get paid for it.
Drea Lynn, attorney, Fractional COO, and author of Smart Quit: Cash In. Clock Out., built her own consulting business from six figures of debt to half a million in revenue on the strength of what she already knew. This talk is the bridge between knowing and owning: how to turn your expertise into a clear offer, a repeatable system, and a business that supports the work you were built to do.
Takeaways:
Built for universities and HBCUs, professional organizations, faith and women's business audiences, and fractional executives, consultants, and solo operators. Your expertise is already an asset. It is time to build the business behind it.
What do you do when everything looks successful on paper, and your spirit knows it's not where you're supposed to be?
Drea Lynn had the titles: attorney, COO. She also had six figures of debt and a growing certainty that she was building someone else's vision instead of walking in her own. This talk is her why story, the one behind the book Smart Quit. Leaving wasn't recklessness; it was stewardship. The Smart Quit framework (Prepare, Position, Pivot, Profit) became her way of honoring both the calling and the responsibility, because faith without a plan tests God, and a plan without faith stays parked in the employee lot.
Takeaways:
For faith communities, ministry conferences, and purpose-driven business events. You don't have to choose between stability and purpose. There is a smart way to exit.
I'm the person your best employee calls when they're ready to quit. Before the resignation letter. Before the exit interview. And here's what I usually tell them: stay.
Drea Lynn, attorney, Fractional COO, and author of Smart Quit, has sat on both sides of the resignation letter. She was the employee who felt like an owner, hit a ceiling, left, and got called disloyal. Now entrepreneurs still on your payroll call her first. Her message to HR: that resignation isn't disloyalty. It's a signal, and you're reading it wrong. The trait that makes your best people leave is the exact same trait that makes them your best. Keeping them isn't about perks and pizza. Nobody ever said "I was gonna quit, but then, cold brew." It's about making them bigger.
Takeaways: the B.U.I.L.D. framework for turning would-be quitters into internal owners:
Built for the DisruptHR format, available as a 5-minute disruptor talk or expanded keynote for HR, L&D, and leadership audiences. Invest in your builders, or someone else will.
Watch it live: Drea delivered this message at DisruptHR as "Help Them Quit, So They Will Stay." https://vimeo.com/1230565446
Nobody handed her a playbook. So she wrote one.
From FAMU to Tulane Law to the COO's chair, Drea Lynn did everything the "twice as good" script demanded, and still hit the ceiling that script never mentions. This talk is about what happens when Black women and first-gen professionals stop waiting for a seat at the table and start building their own: the debt, the doubt, the half-million-dollar comeback, and the generational math of ownership. "You are allowed to learn everything they're willing to teach you. That knowledge leaves with you."
Takeaways:
Strong fit for HBCU and college audiences, Black professional organizations, DEI programming, and women's economic empowerment events.
For anyone who has never seen themselves as a business owner, but maybe should.
The gap between employee and owner is not a degree or a title. It's a mindset. The skills you use every single shift (solving problems, managing people, handling pressure) are founder skills. Drea Lynn, attorney, Fractional COO, and author of Smart Quit, moves audiences from "just doing the job" to thinking like someone who owns the outcome.
Takeaways:
Especially strong for frontline, hourly, workforce development, and first-gen entrepreneur audiences, written for the break room, not the boardroom.
For anyone who has ever clocked out and thought: there has to be more than this.
Most people don't stay in jobs that stopped working for them because they love it. They stay because nobody ever showed them how to leave right. Drea Lynn, attorney, Fractional COO, and author of Smart Quit, went from a six-figure salary to six figures of debt and back to a half-million-dollar consulting business. This talk is the roadmap she wishes she'd had: the difference between quitting out of frustration and leaving with a plan.
Takeaways:
Ideal as a keynote for career, women's, and entrepreneurship audiences.
