I generally get paid for speaking but make exceptions
I am currently a licensed social worker, college professor, and business owner. However, my journey has been filled with challenges and triumphs. First, I was born with club feet and a rare form of meningitis. I was not expected to live. I had to have surgery as a newborn and did not walk until age 2. I was born to a single teen mother and I grew up in poverty. We lived in public housing and had to depend upon social services for basic necessities. My dad was an attorney but chose not to support my mom financially. When I visited him, it hurt to see that he lived on a golf course but was ok with me remaining in my current environment.
I entered college at 17 and began dating the star football player, who would eventually become physically abusive. I continued dating this gentleman for six years. Even after becoming a social worker, I still struggled with depression and low self-esteem. Despite experiencing many trials and challenges, I managed to overcome depression, increase my confidence and discover my voice. It is always an honor to help others understand that they can live an abundant and satisfying life, despite any obstacles they may encounter.
