Biography

As Director of Application Engineering at Digital Lumens, I work with our global team of application engineers to create lighting and building intelligence solutions for customers worldwide. My team's efforts include technical sales, photometric design, networking infrastructure, project management, and training.

Origin Story

My path has been long and winding, following opportunities that have challenged me and pushed me to be stronger and more knowledgeable. I started out in the nuclear navy, serving as a Nuclear Propulsion Surface Warfare Officer aboard aircraft carriers. I then moved into commercial real estate, where my engineering knowledge and love for the environment merged into a stong interest in the green building movement and LEED. I carried a downtown highrise office property through the LEED Certification process, achieving LEED Gold. Looking for new challenges, I joined the team at Digital Lumens, further pusuing my interests in engineering and smart builings to be a part of the LED lighting and building intelligence revolution.

The New Normal: Why Lighting Controls are Now a 'Must Have'

There's an industry-wide movement in the commercial and industrial sector to reduce lighting energy use to meet both financial and sustainability objectives. But simply switching illumination sources isn't sufficient to lock in impressive gains. The answer? Controls. Emerging utility and regulatory guidelines are making controls a 'must have' rather than a 'nice to have' and creating opportunities for facility-wide insight, as well.

Calculating the Intelligent Lighting Advantage

With an industry-wide movement to reduce lighting energy use, it is time to think about calculating the intelligent lighting advantage. From manufacturing facilities to distribution centers, attend this session to learn how to intelligent lighting systems are helping leading facilities lock in efficiency gains and leverage lighting as a platform for building intelligence.

Changing the Customer Conversation: From Efficiency to Intelligence and Beyond

With the widespread market migration to LEDs and the proliferation of embedded controls, it is time for the industry to move the conversation beyond the simple efficiency advantages of LEDs. The addition of sensors, controls, networking and open standards are rapidly moving lighting into the IT world in all environments – from hospitality to education to office spaces, retail and more. In this session, Morris will explore the benefits of networked lighting in a variety of environments, and offer insights into how help the end customer gain more from their lighting investments than simple energy savings.
