Women in Construction, Mentorship and Personal and Professional Growth
From Behind the Door - I want to share a story about a desk behind a door. It might seem like an odd place to start, but sometimes the most powerful lessons come from the most unexpected places.
Imagine this…you work in a construction jobsite trailer, you are given a choice between two desks in this office; one in front of the door, visible to everyone who walked by, and one behind it. You I chose the desk behind the door. For three years, I sat there, head down, working diligently, believing that excellent work would speak for itself and bring acknowledgement. I watched as not one, but two colleagues who sat at the desk in front of the door received promotions I didn't even know existed.
Abstract
What happens when your biggest career achievements remain invisible? When your innovative solutions are praised in meetings where you're not present? When you're literally and metaphorically sitting "behind the door" while others discuss your success without knowing your name?
In this transformative keynote, Valeria Wright confronts the silent epidemic undermining professional advancement: the systematic invisibility of high performers. Drawing from compelling research showing that 73% of women fear self-promotion backlash, 75% of female executives experience imposter syndrome, and surprisingly, 71% of CEOs struggle with similar self-doubt, this presentation reveals why professional visibility isn't about ego—it's about equity.
Through the powerful metaphor of stepping "from behind the door," attendees will discover how to break free from the "invisible achievement trap" that keeps talented professionals overlooked for promotions, excluded from high-visibility projects, and undervalued in compensation discussions. This isn't another generic confidence-building session—it's a strategic masterclass in authentic self-advocacy.
Attendees will learn:
Key Takeaways:
This presentation combines personal storytelling with research-backed frameworks, ensuring attendees leave with both inspiration and immediately actionable tools. Perfect for: Professional conferences, leadership summits, women's networking events, corporate training programs, and diversity & inclusion initiatives.
The session concludes with a powerful call to action: "Take Credit Thursday isn't just an event—it's a movement toward recognizing that your achievements matter, your contributions count, and your voice deserves to be heard."
