I have been running a multimillion-dollar company in downtown Boston for over 3 decades. During that time, I have successfully weathered 3 recessions and a global pandemic. By learning to identify and reject the voice that told me "I will never be successful," I listened to my REAL voice and was able to overcome not only the financial challenges of starting my company at the age of 26 but also the crisis every parent hopes to avoid, the tragic death of my son at the age of 23.
Nothing excites me more than seeing people grow and transform into their REAL self where they can identify their limiting beliefs and replace them with possibility thinking.
My ah-ha moment was when I realized I could never grow my company beyond my current abilities unless I hired a coach. I had never invested in myself, I had only invested in my company. Investing in my leadership skills was the best decision I have ever made. It has not only made me a better CEO, but it has also made me a better wife, a better mother, a better friend, and a better person. I don’t believe there is such a thing as work-life balance…we only have one life whether we are at work or at home. Becoming the best version of ourselves is the greatest gift we can give to those we love, to those we lead, and to the world at large.
Sharing about how I overcame tremendous obstacles to start my company at the tender age of 26 when a woman in Boston couldn’t even get a loan without a co-signer.
I had been approached by a silent partner to start a staffing firm; however, he backed out at the last minute and I found myself alone with no job, no business experience, no alternate funding, and nothing but raw determination and belief to support me in opening Hollister Staffing. Because my “partner” had signed a contract, he was obliged to co-sign a loan for me with the stipulation that I pay it back in full in one year. Against all odds and with little more than passion and commitment, I was able to pay the loan back and create a business that has withstood the test of over 3 decades, 3 recessions, and a global pandemic.
This inspires listeners to embrace possibility and hold onto their dreams.
