Shirley Jones-Luke is an educator, poet, and writer. Ms. Luke has been an educator for over 15 years. Shirley is passionate that all students can learn and deserve learning environments that support their individual learning styles. Ms. Luke has been writing essays, stories, and poetry since childhood. She is a published poet and has attended several conferences to hone her craft. Ms. Luke enjoys public speaking and sharing her life experiences with others. Shirley is a firm believer in diversity, inclusion, social justice, and women's rights.
What puts a smile on my face is when I see people connecting to what I'm sharing with them. When I see faces light up, eyes widen and heads nod., I know that what I'm sharing resonates with others. I'm passionate about providing knowledge to others and increasing people's access to knowledge.
I do not have a company. I'm looking to begin a speaking career.
To be honest, I don't know. I teach in the Boston Public Schools. I always loved learning since I was a little girl. I had some great teachers growing up and became a teacher when I became disillusioned with the private sector. I've met hundreds of wonderful students over the years, but have also suffered much as a teacher. I've thought of quitting many times over the years. But every year, I keep coming back. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment or I can't find a way out and follow new pursuits.
