Vanecia Kerr is the Chief Impact Officer at Mile High United Way. Prior to that role she served as the Regional Executive Director of College Track Colorado. College Track is a nonprofit organization focused on ensuring students from low-income communities get to and through college. Prior to joining College Track in 2016, she was the Managing Director of City Year Denver where she was responsible for overseeing the marketing, communications and development for the $3.2M location. In that role, she created the first ever City Year Women’s Initiative that initially attracted 400 attendees at their first Annual Breakfast. In just two years the event had grown to over 800 attendees. Additionally, Ms. Kerr was instrumental in nearly doubling the overall revenue for City Year Denver in just three years.
Vanecia spent over 20 years in the corporate sector before entering the nonprofit sector. Her experience includes a number of leadership roles such as serving as the Regional Director of Community Affairs for TIAA-CREF. In this role she was responsible for developing and overseeing the strategy and implementation of the community outreach activities for over 20 offices in multiple states. Her tenure at TIAA-CREF spanned nearly 18 years where she also held several leadership positions that included managing the most complex top tier clients with assets ranging from $200M to $800M.
Ms. Kerr received her BA in Political Science from Hampton University (VA) and a Masters in Public Administration from Baruch College (NY). She has also received several certificates in Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Social Responsibility from Boston College. Ms. Kerr is the recipient of numerous certificates and honors throughout her career including being recognized as the 9News Leader of the Year (2023), Woman of Impact (2022), Top 25 Most Powerful Women by the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce (2018) and Outstanding Women in Business by the Denver Business Journal (2018).
In terms of civic engagement, Ms. Kerr has a number of outstanding accomplishments. She is the founder of several organizations and has served on numerous boards. She was appointed by Governor John Hickenlooper to serve on the Colorado Commission on Higher Education in 2014 and re-appointed by Governor Jared Polis in 2019. She is a highly experienced public speaker who has been a featured guest on radio and TV. She is credited with over 250 speaking engagements with audience sizes ranging from 20 to 2000; serving as a keynote speaker, expert panelist and facilitator for various local and national organizations including the Clinton Global Initiative and Boston College’s Center for Corporate Citizenship.
Ms. Kerr is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (a public service sorority) and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. In her spare time she likes to volunteer, serve in her local church, watch movies and enjoy the many activities that Colorado has to offer with her husband and 21 year old son.
