The professionals I work with are passionate about their jobs, but often on the verge of burning out. I show them how to recharge their careers by implementing five resilience strategies. These strategies help them rediscover their purpose, manage the urgency and perfectionism that can get in their way, and boost their influence and impact.
One of the stories most satisfying to me is about my client Ann. When Ann came to me for leadership coaching, she was so burned out, she was ready to leave the company, despite her success at creating and leading a mission-critical department in her company. As part of the coaching process, we focused on building her resilience, which led to her to recharge her career and continue her outstanding contributions to the organization. When Ann eventually left the company, she moved on to her dream position, where she continues to be an amazing leader with impact and influence.
Several years ago, as I coached employees in a company that had been acquired, I observed differences between those with career resilience and those who were thrown off by the transition. The individuals with career resilience were able to navigate much more effectively through the process. They drove their careers, made the choice to not let the acquisition ‘ruin’ their lives, and found opportunities even in a challenging situation. I identified five common strategies that these resilient people possessed as part of their career toolbox.
As I passed on these strategies to clients over the years, I saw how developing resilience enables professionals to have the careers and lives they want and avoid burnout. I turned these strategies into my Benatti Resiliency Model and it is now one of the cornerstones of my leadership coaching practice and the training classes I offer.
