The concept for Papilia was born out of my passion for travel and curiosity to experience cultures of the world in a mindful and responsible way. As an avid traveler and international development professional, I spent hours researching cultural nuances and etiquette to feel confident and comfortable in any business or leisure setting. I wanted to be prepared for my trip prior to departure so I could focus on what actually matters: to absorb local culture, to develop meaningful relationships, and to create lasting memories. But, understanding culture goes beyond a trip. I spent time thinking about how Papilia's mission could impact the lives of people in a more thoughtful way. After many months of brainstorming ideas, talking with people, and reflecting upon global perceptions of diversity and culture in the United States and abroad, I developed a solution that I'm really passionate about: creating tailored strategies, training, workshops and/or coaching sessions for clients interested in improving their corporate culture.
When I was 10 years old, I was fortunate enough to live in Sri Lanka for two years. That time in Colombo changed my life forever. I witnessed a different way of living than I was exposed to growing up in the United States. These life experiences led me to become an international development professional and a true global citizen of the world. But in 2014, I left my full time job to pursue my dream of starting an ethical fashion label working with female entrepreneurs in Bangladesh. One month after departing from my job, I was faced with an event that almost took my life. I was in a car accident, hit by three cars and an 18-wheeler head on. That moment made me realize the fragility of life. From that moment I made a choice to live a life full of purpose and intention, and to spread this outlook of positivity to people seeking a similar lifestyle.
