Biography

Spectra A. I. Asala is a tech leader, community builder, and impact entrepreneur with over a decade of experience leading product, operations, and expansion initiatives across the globe. She's built two several successful ventures from the ground up; has lived and worked on five continents, and is passionate about cultural intelligence as the next challenge of global leadership.

Having led product and growth at multi-million dollar tech startups (Jumia, Flywire, Lola, Cogito, Wistia), she partners with companies to translate vision and strategy to execution and design product & engineering operating models that foster and enable innovation at scale.

Spectra is also the founding director of Code Red, a community of leaders, scholars, and investors pioneering new models for creating cultures of belonging in the tech industry, and an active board member at various non-profits focused on advancing fair labor and equitable employment practices.

In her spare time, she writes and speaks regularly about product leadership, organizational culture, and the future of work. And organizes talks for tech leaders interested in ensuring ethics, inclusion, and equity in emerging technology such as AI, Blockchain, IoT, and applications powered by big data.

Passion

Overall, I'm most passionate about (1) helping the under-represented and under-estimated reach (and flaunt) their full potential, and (2) equipping business and community leaders with the mindset and tools to create environments that make this possible.

Here are a few topics I care about...

- Creating Cultures of Belonging
- Ethical and Inclusive Leadership
- Enabling and Empowering Teams

... particularly within these domains:

- Strategy, Growth, Innovation
- Product, UX, and Emerging Technologies
- Managing Global / Remote / Distributed teams
- Globalization and the Future of Work

I wish more people asked me to share my thoughts on...

- What It Takes for Organizations To Become "Customer- or User-Centered" (Not What They Think)
- Animals and the Environment (What We Can Learn)
- My Favorite Books, Movies, and Music
