Biography

Deb Mulligan, CPA, MBA, is the founder of The Reclaim Concierge™ and host of the Between the Laugh Lines podcast. Her story starts with one honest line: “I’m a CPA. I knew all the answers. I still didn’t look.”

That contradiction is the heart of her work. Deb helps women 40+ bring clarity, confidence, and self-trust to their financial lives, starting with one idea: financial avoidance in capable women is not a knowledge problem. It’s a silence problem.

On the mic, Deb is funny enough to disarm, clear enough to trust, and credentialed enough to believe. Through solo episodes and one-on-one guest conversations, she talks about money the way women actually live it, tangled up with aging, beauty, raising kids, caring for family, and figuring out who you are in midlife. No jargon, no lectures, and no shame. Just honest conversation and one simple next step women will actually take.

Now bringing that voice to live and virtual events, Deb speaks on money avoidance, rebuilding financial confidence after 40, breaking generational money silence, and why the woman in the mirror and the woman in the banking app deserve the same honesty

Passion

Deb lights up when smart, accomplished women realize they were never “bad with money.” They were unclear, unsupported, and nobody ever showed them. Her passion is making money talk feel normal, safe, and even a little funny, so women stop avoiding it and start making decisions from clarity instead of shame.

She is especially passionate about ending the money silence that gets handed down in families. The money conversation got skipped in her house growing up, and she refuses to let it skip another generation, including her own boys.

And yes, beauty is part of the conversation. How a woman feels in the mirror and how she feels about her bank account are more connected than anyone admits. Deb’s take: you’re allowed to want the serum and the savings account.

Best Story

I was home with our two-year-old son and pregnant with our second son when my husband walked in and said, “I’ve been laid off.”
Just like that, we were two adults with a house, car payments, a toddler, a baby on the way, and no paychecks. And no emergency fund to catch us.

Here’s the part that still stings. I’m a CPA. I knew exactly what should have been in place. But we had been living in the moment, the way so many young families do, and the moment had just sent us the bill!

The debt didn’t arrive all at once. It crept. Every month the gap got a little wider and the balances quietly grew. And me? I stopped opening the mail, stopped opening the app. The fear of seeing the numbers felt bigger than the numbers themselves, so I waited until the last possible day before every due date, paid what I could, and looked away again.

Until one day, I didn’t. I sat down, opened everything, and laid it all out in front of me. It was hard to look at. It was also the first time in months I could breathe, because now I could see it. And what you can see, you can plan.

We rebuilt one bill at a time. It wasn’t glamorous and it wasn’t fast, but it worked. That’s why I do this work. The numbers were never the enemy. Not looking was.

Now I check my banking app every week and review every account every week. No drama, no spreadsheet with 47 tabs. Just a rhythm I can come back to.

That’s why I do this work. If a CPA can avoid her own money, avoidance was never about intelligence. It was about silence. And silence can be broken, one honest conversation at a time.

Origin Story

Nobody in my house talked about money growing up. Not because anyone did anything wrong, but because nobody had ever taught them either. So I did what a lot of smart women do. AS the youngest of four, I was fortunate enough to go to college(I still don't know how my parents did it, lots of loans!) I became a CPA, earned my MBA, built a career around accounting and money ... and quietly avoided my own anyway.

Somewhere in midlife, working full time, raising boys, and watching that same silence show up across my family, it clicked. The silence had been handed to me, and I was about to hand it to my sons.

So I started talking. In 2025 I launched Between the Laugh Lines, a podcast for women 40+, with zero technical or social media experience. Not an easy task while doing this all in the margins of a full life. Then I built The Reclaim Concierge™ to help women 40+ trade financial shame and silence for clarity, confidence, and control.

My a-ha moment was simple. I didn’t need to be the expert who had it all together. I needed to be the proof that you can know better, not look, and still turn it around.

For most of my career, being the quiet one worked. My introverted nature served me well. I listened more than I spoke, observed, did the work, and grew steadily managing a team of 50+. But somewhere along the way, a question settled in that I couldn’t shake: is this all there is?

It wasn’t. I love learning new things. Learning doesn’t end when the degrees are framed or the title is earned. There is always a next chapter, if you’re willing to step into it before you feel ready.

So I took a leap of faith and started a podcast. Not to be louder, but to be heard. I wanted meaningful one-on-one conversations with people whose stories matter. I wanted solo episodes where I could finally say what I think without softening it first. And I wanted to leave something that outlasts a job description: a legacy in my own words.

That’s what I want every woman to know. There is so much more in you than your career, your home, your relationship has asked for. Your voice has been waiting, and it is not too late to use it.
