Biography

Ife Obi is the Founder and CEO of The Fit In Wellness Collective, a multi-location boutique fitness and wellness organization headquartered in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. What began in 2018 as a single location has grown into a four-location enterprise serving thousands of residents across Central Brooklyn, including Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights, and East New York. In 2024, The Fit In formalized its nonprofit arm, extending its reach into underserved communities through free programming, strategic partnerships, and workforce development initiatives. The Fit In is not just a fitness brand — it is a living proof of concept that community-rooted, science-forward wellness can scale without sacrificing mission.

Before building The Fit In, Ife spent nearly a decade at Rockstar Games, where she rose from Marketing Coordinator to Marketing Strategy Director. Her signature achievement: leading the marketing strategy for Grand Theft Auto V, a campaign that generated over $1 billion in gross revenue within its first three days of release, broke six entertainment sales world records, and positioned the title as the best-selling premium game of all time with over 95 million units sold. She managed multimillion-dollar global marketing budgets, built high-value partnerships with Sony, Apple, and Microsoft, and led the company's pivotal transition from physical to digital distribution — driving double-digit year-over-year growth in digital sales. Earlier in her career, she held marketing roles at Atari and Blacksmith/Warner Bros. Records, consulted for Twitter's MoPub division, and developed integrated campaigns across gaming, music, and consumer technology — building a cross-industry record of growing revenue and brand equity for some of the world's most recognized properties.

Ife left corporate America with one goal: to bring the quality of movement education she had accessed through affluence back to the Brooklyn neighborhood where she was raised. Growing up in East New York in the 1980s and '90s — a community lacking safe spaces and a culture of wellness — she had to travel out of her neighborhood and pay premium prices to access the fitness resources that changed her life. The Fit In was built to close that gap, offering science-forward programming across Pilates, strength training, barre, and functional movement, while partnering with Community Board 3, New York Restoration Project, and BMS Family Health and Wellness Centers to deliver free programming throughout Bed-Stuy and Brownsville.

Her impact has been recognized nationally. Ife has been featured in Forbes, Women's Health, Self, The Root, and Refinery29 — named the "Grace Jones of Fitness" by Forbes for her bold, boundary-breaking approach to wellness entrepreneurship. The Fit In was also selected as part of Beyoncé's Black Parade, a recognition of Black-owned businesses making a meaningful difference in their communities.

Ife's vision has always extended beyond studio walls. Because access to quality wellness has never been equally distributed — and the communities that need it most have historically been left out — she is committed to ensuring that those often overlooked are no longer an afterthought in the health and fitness industry. Through The Fit In's growing nonprofit arm, instructor training scholarship program, community wellness events, and free programming partnerships, she is building the infrastructure for a future where zip code does not determine access to a better quality of life. For Ife Obi, this is not charity. It is community — and it is the work she was built to do.

Passion

Women getting stronger—especially after 40—always puts a smile on my face. I love talking about strength, muscle and longevity; why Pilates and weights belong in the same conversation; and how we can make fitness feel less intimidating and more accessible.

I also light up when talking about the business of wellness, building businesses that genuinely serve their communities, creating more opportunities for Black and Brown wellness professionals, and what it really means to be a great fitness teacher—not just a great exerciser.

And give me an opportunity to challenge some of the nonsense we've been taught about women, aging and exercise? I'm in.

Best Story

I went through early menopause at 35—long before menopause was part of the mainstream wellness conversation and at an age when I certainly wasn't expecting it to become part of mine.

That experience changed the way I understood my body, aging, and ultimately fitness. Years later, as a Pilates instructor, strength trainer, and wellness founder, I can look back and see how much information and support I—and so many women—simply didn't have.

I love sharing the journey from navigating early menopause in my 30s to becoming a woman in my 40s who teaches other women to build strength, preserve muscle, and think differently about what their bodies are capable of as they age. It's a story about menopause, but it's also about reinvention, resilience, and learning that getting older doesn't have to mean becoming less powerful.

Origin Story

I think I have an “aha” moment about my company regularly.

The first was realizing that community isn't just a nice addition to fitness—it's an important part of women's commitment to their health. People may come for the workout, but feeling seen, supported, and connected is often what keeps them coming back.

Now, in my 40s, that insight has evolved. I'm realizing that community may matter even more at this stage of life than it did before. Our bodies are changing, our responsibilities are changing, our relationships are changing, and the way we need to care for ourselves is changing too. At the exact moment women are being told to prioritize strength, muscle, longevity, and their health more than ever, many of us also need a stronger sense of connection and support.

That has shifted how I think about The Fit In. We're not simply creating places for people to exercise. We're building a community where women can navigate getting older, stronger, and healthier together.
