I'm a Director of PR with fingerprints on features in People Magazine, Forbes, Business Insider, Women's Health, and many more. Despite constantly communicating with journalists and editors, it wasn't until I was contacted by a journalist about my own story of leaving the US for a Fulbright and building a life and business from Spain that I realized the intense imposter syndrome that can arise when you finally land an interview with the media.
Finally, I understood why so many female founders with incredible businesses and important stories to tell felt under-qualified to contact the media, scared to interview, and eager to stay hidden. Stepping out from behind the curtain, however, allowed me to share my message with a major audience, drawing attention to my business, interest in my projects, and, ultimately, offered a vulnerable perspective on the life I lived outside of PR. These story anecdotes have led people to connect more deeply with me.
Now, we are making PR more accessible and approachable for founders and thought leaders everywhere. We've moved beyond our agency (where we own outreach, organize interviews, and work with the media directly) into a new project: PitchWell, a PR platform that democratizes access to PR by allowing founders to create pitches and formulate story ideas, connect directly with the media, and own their outreach through email integration. Through weekly pitch sessions and monthly workshops, we are bringing media training to the founders who aren't able to pay a 30,000 PR retainer.
