Did you know that only one in four C-Suite leaders is a woman and only 1 in 20 is a woman of color?
2021 was a pivotal year in my leadership journey. At that point I would have been at my current job for about 3 years, I was the only one in the team when I was hired. Very quickly the program grew and we hired 3 more people to do my job. I trained and brought all of them up to speed. I exceeded expectations for 3 consecutive years and demonstrated that every year I took new initiatives, new responsibilities and delivered. . Now that the team grew they needed a team lead. You would think that I would be the best person for this role right? No, they passed me up for this promotion to one of three people I trained. This left me disappointed and confused. I lost trust in the system. It made me doubt my leadership abilities. This is subtle workplace gaslighting.
With a raise of hands, did you ever doubt your abilities? Or you know someone who is questioning their own self-worth?
I teach Truthlighting behaviors that is the opposite of gaslighting. Here is one thing I would like you to practice. Validate peoples reality - listen to understand by paraphrasing . - Use statements that start with I hear you and it sounds like …. to express understanding.
Imagine a future where clarity replace confusion, trust replaces fear, and everyone’s reality is respected. That is the future I will help you create. To lead with Truthlighting!

When I think about my leadership journey, it really starts way before me. I carry so much of my strength from my ancestors, especially my great-grandmother, Sona. She was a warrior in her own quiet way. Back in the early 1900s, widowed women and renunciants/nuns were expected to shave their heads, stay away from anything considered “vanity,” and basically live isolated lives. But she didn’t accept that. She created an institution where women could worship just like men, keep their identity, get an education, and actually build a life for themselves. And the amazing part is—that institution is still alive today, with centers around the world.
I didn’t fully understand it growing up, but that spirit… it’s in me. It’s almost like a compass I didn’t know I had. And it definitely guided one of the biggest decisions of my life: moving to the United States for higher education and career. That was really the start of my leadership story. Suddenly I was in a completely new culture, making financial decisions, personal decisions—every single thing—on my own. I made mistakes, plenty of them, but I never felt defeated. Somehow, I always believed there was something bigger I was moving toward. But the Every step has taught me that leadership isn’t just about position or power—it’s about resilience, purpose, and having the courage to rewrite the rules when the ones in front of you don’t make sense. So in many ways, I think my leadership journey really began with her—with my great-grandmother’s courage—and I’ve just been carrying that torch forward in my own way.
