Jill Macauley is a dynamic leadership strategist and sought-after speaker who helps organizations unlock the human potential behind their business results. As Chief Operating Officer of Behavioral Essentials, a leading behavioral science and organizational development firm, Jill partners with executives and teams to accelerate growth by cultivating deeper self-awareness, strategic clarity, and intentional leadership.
With nearly two decades of experience guiding leaders across industries, Jill is passionate about challenging conventional approaches to performance and growth. Her work sits at the intersection of behavioral science and business strategy — revealing how self-awareness, behavioral intelligence, and conscious decision-making can drive innovation, engagement, and bottom-line results without sacrificing human well-being.
Jill is also a leading voice behind Blindspotting, a groundbreaking framework and forthcoming Harvard Business Review book by clinical psychologist Dr. Martin Dubin. Together, they are redefining how organizations confront the unseen behavioral patterns that limit leadership effectiveness and organizational success. Jill’s talks bring this work to life with practical tools, thought-provoking insights, and a refreshingly human approach to leadership development.
Known for her candid, engaging style and actionable perspective, Jill speaks on topics including:
Leadership Blind Spots: How unconscious behaviors sabotage success — and how to uncover them.
The Power of Self-Awareness: Why self-knowledge is today’s ultimate leadership skill.
Strategic Leadership: Aligning people, purpose, and performance for sustained growth.
Human-Centered Business: Driving results without exploiting people or burning them out.
Jill’s mission is simple: to help leaders see themselves clearly, think more strategically, and lead with intention — because when people grow, organizations thrive.
At the heart of my work is a deep belief that when people grow, organizations transform. I am driven by the intersection of human potential and business performance — exploring how self-awareness, behavioral science, and conscious leadership can create workplaces where people thrive, organizations excel, and the future is built with intention.
Core Passion Areas:
Human Potential & Self-Awareness – Helping people see themselves clearly and unlock their full leadership capacity.
Leadership That Heals, Not Harms – Redefining leadership to drive results while honoring human dignity and wellbeing.
Behavior as the Bridge Between People and Performance – Using behavioral science to translate human dynamics into business outcomes.
Blindspots & Breakthroughs – Revealing unseen patterns that limit success and sparking transformative “aha” moments.
Conscious Business Strategy – Designing systems, cultures, and strategies that align human behavior with sustainable growth.
Meaningful Futures (for People and the Planet) – Building workplaces and leadership legacies that positively shape the future.
The Pain We Don’t See
I remember the exact moment it hit me. I was sitting in a meeting, one of those high-stakes, high-pressure strategy sessions, and I looked around the table at a group of incredibly smart, capable leaders. But instead of energy, I saw exhaustion. Instead of creativity, I saw defensiveness. And instead of connection, I saw people talking at each other, not with each other.
It was one of those moments where time slows down. I realized that the frustration, the misalignment, the disengagement, it wasn’t because these people didn’t care or weren’t talented. It was because they were missing something foundational. They didn’t understand themselves.
They didn’t see the behaviors driving their decisions. They didn’t understand the motivations behind their reactions. They didn’t recognize the patterns shaping their relationships and shaping the culture around them. And that blind spot, that gap in self-awareness, was quietly creating so much pain.
I saw brilliant people doubting themselves. Passionate leaders undermining their own impact. Teams stuck in cycles of conflict and burnout. And it wasn’t because they were broken, it was because they were blind.
That day changed everything for me. I realized that the most urgent work in leadership isn’t about better strategies or stronger execution. It’s about helping people see what they can’t see, about giving them the language, the tools, and the space to understand who they are and how they’re showing up. Because when people understand themselves, they stop creating unnecessary pain, and they start unlocking their greatest potential.
And that’s why I do what I do. Because I believe that every great business transformation begins with a deeply human one, and when leaders see themselves clearly, they don’t just change their organizations. They change everything.
