Suzanne Spencer took countless calls and story ideas as a broadcast journalist over a decade of working in tv news. When her phone rang in 2021, the news was delivered to her and it changed the trajectory of her life. Suzanne is now a two-time brain tumor survivor, keynote speaker, and storyteller who pivoted to create her own business, Suzanne Speaks, with a core mission to help others overcome challenges.
When you know how quickly life can change, every milestone becomes grounds for a celebration. Suzanne has tackled fitness challenges like half marathons and most recently Hyrox. She enjoys quality time with people in her life, creating new social and professional networks, traveling with her family, and fashion (the hobby she almost chose as a career).
In what ended up being a very public brain tumor battle, was almost never public at all. After receiving her life changing news, Suzanne hesitated to share given her public-facing job and fear that it would invite judgment from others. The light-switch moment for her came when she realized sharing her battle was never about her; it was about helping others. Suzanne speaks about how critical mindset is after encountering a major challenge and how to build community, be it through conversations or social media, in those moments of isolation.
Returning to her high-profile, visible job as a tv news anchor after two brain surgeries and the birth of her daughter was exactly where she wanted to be – until it wasn’t. Suzanne knew she wanted to share her message of hope and inspiration on different stages. Listening to her own inner voice led her to pursue the keynote stage, where both her personal and professional goals converged into one powerful, actionable, and memorable keynote that she believes changes the way in which people will see and overcome challenges.
