Biography

Do you suffer from backaches, lack of energy, or difficulty concentrating due to aches and pain? So do many people! Shiatsu can improve your quality of daily life.

Naoko Vold has been a Shiatsu practitioner for more than 55 years and is the creator of the Modern Way of Teaching Shiatsu. Her mission is to see the ancient Shiatsu remedy live on in today’s modern world. Her presentations include workshops demonstrating how to use nothing more than your hands to relieve pain and fatigue in your family and friends.

Vold trained in Shiatsu and Anma Therapy in the apprentice program in Tokyo in 1967. In 1970, she brought the Shiatsu technique from Japan to Michigan. For two years, she worked exclusively for the Jewish Family Club while she studied at the Cosmetology School of Michigan State, earning her license, before opening Dol-Vando Skin Care and Day Spa in the suburb of Detroit, in 1977. This spa was the home of the Shiatsu massage for 30 years until her move to Rochester, Minnesota, in November 2006.

Vold was a member of the “Esthetic America” educational committee of the National Cosmetology Association from 1990 to 2005, helping other practitioners improve their skills.

She is excited to share her expertise and experience, and she can help you and your loved ones find relief from pain and fatigue.

Passion

Shiatsu is about Tsubo therapy. It is a similar method to the acupuncture chart. Still, we use the thumbs and palms of our hands to apply pressure to vital points (Tsubo), which correct muscle irregularities and maintain and enhance body movement. Developed more than a thousand years ago, Tsubo is something I'm passionate about. Over the years, I have earned the trust of happy and satisfied customers. That is why I enjoy teaching Tsubo. Tsubo is not a mystery or magic. It's a real therapy that I always like to teach. I love to cook, always searching for new flavors to serve my family, gathering. A healthy diet is best for good health.

Best Story

A lady called my Spa to ask if our shiatsu services could help her with her problem. All she wanted was to be able to attend her son's University of Michigan graduation ceremony, but she had sciatic nerve pain that she couldn't stand. I said to her, "I can help you, come see me, just talking over the phone, I don't know how I can help.” Finally, she came in with her husband, who helped escort her to the door. She was physically exhausted and needed relief for her tight muscles and to speed up circulation in her upper back, lower back, hips, and upper legs. I worked on her by giving her a good shiatsu massage. After the massage, to reduce her sciatic nerve inflammation, I applied cold towels 2-3 times to bring down the heat. She was able to attend her son's graduation after three more shiatsu massage sessions. A woman often neglects herself in winter, gaining weight due to concerns about tiredness and a lack of energy. In Spring, she showed us Sciatic Nerve inflammation, that she was in pain and could not stand up two feet.

With my expertise and experience, I can help you and your loved one find relief from pain and fatigue. Let me show you how Shiatsu can improve your quality of life.

Shiatsu can improve your quality of daily life

Suppose you’re a business owner or manager of the company. In that case, you likely care about your employees’ health and well-being—not only as a matter of principle, but also because it makes sound business sense. A healthy workforce is a productive workforce. Investing in employee wellness can lead to higher productivity, reduced absenteeism, and stronger company loyalty.

That’s why I would like to propose introducing a Shiatsu Wellness Room—a dedicated space where employees can recharge quickly and effectively during the workday.

The Shiatsu Room would include:

·         One massage table

·         A Jeanie Rub Massager

·         A yoga mat for self-guided stretching and energy exercises

·         A comfortable reclining chair for short power naps

Many employees experience an “afternoon slump,” back aches, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. Stress slows circulation; breathing also reduces focus and increases cravings for caffeine and sugar.
Through simple Shiatsu techniques, we can counter these effects naturally and restore vitality in just a few minutes.

Shiatsu focuses on key energy points on your beltline where your lower back stores energy vital to the entire body. This energy builds up over your lifetime. Apply a few pressures to energy points; use the Jeanie Rub massager on the hips and upper legs to increase circulation and energy within minutes. A short 7–10-minute Shiatsu session can help relieve tension, improve circulation, and restore mental clarity—allowing staff to return to work refreshed and focused.

As the creator of the Modern Way of Teaching Shiatsu, I can demonstrate how anyone can use simple hand pressure to relieve pain, fatigue, and tension—whether it’s in the neck, shoulders, arms, back, or legs. These methods are easy to learn and can be practiced by anyone, at work or at home. Take care of the early stages of stress before it's too late.

Incorporating a Shiatsu Wellness Room is not just an act of kindness—it’s a strategic investment in your team’s energy, health, and productivity.
