As I was driving down the road one morning, rushing to get to the office, I glanced down and realized I had forgotten my skirt! All I had on was my top, slip nylons, and shoes. I looked down at my feet and thought, 'Well, this is interesting…'
As I continued on my drive, reflecting on my day and the rush to get everything done, I thought back to earlier in my life. Through my 20s, 30s, and 40s, I was often so caught up in the fast pace of life—chasing success, ticking off tasks, trying to stay ahead—that I didn’t always focus on the things that truly mattered. I would rush through milestones, goals, and even relationships, just to keep up with the next thing.
But now, I know better. That moment of forgetting my skirt taught me a valuable lesson: life isn’t about moving faster or accomplishing more; it's about focusing on the things that align with your true values. It’s about slowing down and taking time to reflect, reconnect, and realign with your purpose. Life becomes richer, fuller, and more meaningful when we focus on the things that truly matter and give ourselves permission to pause.
So, as I looked at my slip-on shoes and drove to work that day, I realized that it’s not about speeding through life. It’s about intentionally focusing on the right things, aligning with our core values, and moving forward with purpose. Sometimes, life’s little moments—like forgetting your skirt—remind you to slow down and focus on what really counts.
I remember when I first started working in the insurance industry, I was just beginning to learn how to run a business, and I was juggling all sorts of responsibilities. My first job was at Mr. Donut, where I learned the basics of customer service and how to keep operations running smoothly. Little did I know, those lessons would lay the foundation for the career I would build in insurance, one that would eventually place our agency in the top 10 of the company's history.
But here’s the twist: I didn’t just stick to what I knew. I got involved in community boards, created initiatives like 'Fill the Purse with Purpose,' and started my own coaching firm,-Powerful Purpose, helping women just like you thrive in their personal and professional lives. All those small steps—from Mr. Donut to where I am now—were part of a bigger journey.
And now, I get to work with professional women—from CEOs, coaches, financial advisors and more—helping them find their purpose and build lives they truly love. The truth is, each chapter in our lives counts. Every experience, every lesson, no matter how small, can lead us to a place where we can help others shine. Never underestimate where your journey will take you!
