I was on my way to film a segment for The Dr. Oz Show, but my heart was heavy—I had just lost a beloved family member to ovarian cancer and almost canceled the trip. The producer gently reminded me: “This segment could help others who are struggling.”
On the flight, I picked up Gabby Bernstein’s The Universe Has Your Back, hoping for a little comfort. When I arrived, I found out my turmeric tonic segment would air right after Gabby’s talk on sugar addiction.
In that moment, I felt it: the universe was speaking directly to me. I was exactly where I needed to be—heartbroken, yes, but aligned with purpose.
Before I turned one, I was smuggled out of Africa—my journey to the U.S. began in pure survival mode. My mother’s mantra? Work hard, push through, succeed. So I did. I pushed so hard through medical school that I burned out my adrenals and crashed—mentally and physically.
I saw a psychiatrist. After just 10 minutes and 8 questions, I walked out with a prescription for Prozac. I ripped it up.
That moment changed everything.
Instead of numbing the symptoms, I dove deep into Ayurveda and mind-body medicine. What I discovered healed me—and transformed how I help others.
Today, I honor the power of both modern medicine and ancient wisdom. I believe medications can be life-saving, but I’m passionate about teaching people how the gut-mind connection holds the key to true, lasting health.
