Origin Story

I am a dedicated psychologist with a passion for serving and inspiring others. I grew up with a father who was a psychologist and a mother who worked for social justice organizations, which sparked my interest in helping others. I pursued my studies and eventually earned a doctorate in psychology while balancing my roles as a wife, mother, and student. From working with veterans to national clinical leadership in a large human services organization, these experiences deepened my understanding of trauma-informed care and restorative leadership and their impact on promoting healing and growth.

In 2011, I opened my private practice, fully committing myself to helping individuals dealing with trauma, depression, and anxiety disorders. My dedication to my field is further evidenced by my national speaking engagements on race-based stress, well-being, trauma-informed leadership, and women’s empowerment. In 2023, I was elected President-Elect for the Delaware Psychological Association, a testament to my passion for my field.

My unwavering commitment to establishing deep and meaningful connections defines my success as a leader, clinician, coach, and speaker. Whether addressing an audience, coaching a client, or providing psychotherapy, my primary objective is to create a safe space where others feel seen, heard, and understood. My empathetic and nurturing approach has led to profound transformations as individuals find the courage to embrace their authentic selves and pursue a life of purpose and fulfillment. In 2024, I published my first children’s book, “Nova The Brave One,” a testament to my passion for storytelling and desire to inspire others to embrace their unique qualities and resilience.

My clinical, leadership, and community experiences have reinforced my belief in the transformative power of empathy, relationships, compassion, and advocacy. I am committed to guiding individuals toward healing and growth, instilling hope and optimism in my audience. My work inspires and invites others to join me in creating a brighter future.

The Heart of Leadership: Embracing Trauma-Informed Practices

Are you experiencing high turnover, low productivity, and difficulty establishing healthy boundaries with staff, leading to emotional exhaustion and burnout? Perhaps you’re struggling to build trust among your team, create a supportive environment, and maintain effective communication, resulting in conflict and decreased job satisfaction. Maybe you’re also seeing increased absenteeism, tardiness, and reduced creativity, as trauma and stress affect your team’s well-being and performance.

If so, you’re not alone. These are common problems leaders face, and they can profoundly impact an organization’s overall health and success. Without a practical leadership approach, you may feel unmotivated, frustrated, agitated, and stressed, unsure of how to address your team’s complex issues.

In my speaking engagements targeted at organizational leaders, I emphasize the critical importance of trauma-informed leadership in fostering resilient and healthy workplace environments. By exploring the profound impact of trauma on individuals and teams, I equip leaders with the tools and understanding necessary to create supportive cultures that prioritize mental well-being, establish clear expectations for communication and work-life balance, and promote a sense of safety and trust.

Through engaging discussions and actionable strategies, I challenge leaders to recognize and address trauma’s effects and develop solutions that promote employee well-being, empathy, and understanding. By adopting a trauma-informed approach, leaders can learn to lead compassionately, create spaces where all employees can thrive, innovate, contribute to the organization’s success, and ultimately build a positive, resilient, high-performing team.
