Biography

Sarah Elizabeth lives in Rhode Island with her incredible children, Lexi and Joey. A CPA by trade, her life took a series of twists and turns that changed her perspective on life, love and home. She has found that her true calling is learning to see life through a lens of blessings, gratitude and vulnerability and creating a safe space for others to do the same.
When the White Picket Fence Is No Longer Enough opens the door for unguarded conversations about life’s ugliest encounters - and the most beautiful ones. Through Sarah’s removal of her own masks of who she thought she was supposed to be, others will be invited and supported in doing the same. Through unguarding ourselves as women, as mothers, as struggling humans, we have the power to learn to connect with others at their most primal and basic level - unconditional love - and that is exactly what this book will do for its readers.
Through the power of pen and paper, Sarah began to review her experiences with a sense of humility, gratitude, and grace. What started as a way of personal healing and reconciliation has become a motivating belief that there is power in the ability to self-review and self-accept that will have a lasting impact on a wide variety of audiences. As a mother, a mother of a differing-needs child, a divorced mother, and a professional, the journey from external expectations and demands to understanding herself and seeing others in their rawest essence will resonate with a diverse population who are also trying to find their way in this world. Through sharing her lessons on life, love and acceptance, her perspective invites vulnerability into our everyday existence, whether that be at work or at home, with strangers or our closest social groups.

Passion

Watching my children grow into the beings they are meant to be, and seeing life through their eyes and perspective brings me my greatest sense of joy and faith. I find both grace and humility in helping others find their way to peace in the middle of their own chaotic lives through the power of rewriting their own stories, trusting in the divinity of life, seeing the beauty in all experiences, and my hands-on healing energy work.

Best Story

Excerpt from When the White Picket Fence is No Longer Enough:

When you are of a certain age and you find yourself looking for a partner and a love that is not derived around having children, having a family, building a house together, consolidating resources, it creates a strange dynamic. It is not a love built for the outcome but rather the journey. You realize you are looking for someone just for you—not to establish a legacy or generation to leave behind you. You’re not trying to create something that will compete with past loves or exes or even families who came before. You’re not looking to intertwine finances or debate the number of children and how they will be raised and what a family looks like. When you are looking for someone at this point in your life, it becomes incredibly personal in a very different way than when you were looking in your twenties.
Losing yourself in others is a lot easier than loving yourself. Making commitments to others is a lot easier than making a commitment to yourself. To your body. To your mind. To your spirituality. To your growth. When you love to love and pour your all into others, being challenged to love yourself in the way you desire others to love you can feel like the greatest journey you will ever take—and maybe it is.
Through his loving grace and embodiment of freedom, he showed me for the first time in my life that I didn’t need my white knight to show up and save me. I needed him to show up and remind me that I was worth saving myself. Self-love is the only real avenue to finding the type of love I have been searching for. I have spent my entire life craving connection and belonging, yet I have starved the relationship with myself. Because I didn’t think I was worth loving myself, I spent all of my love trying to love everyone else, hoping they’d love me in return.
He reminded me that I didn’t need another person in exchange for myself. I already know the feeling of the love of a child. I know what it is to love a man without condition. I know the beauty that is found in the feelings of winds of change that blow when we need them most. I know the love and safety of a home and the feeling of a full belly and a warm bed to rest in. I know the experience of Heaven found in a sunrise, a slow dance, a newborn’s kiss. I know the humility and grace that can only be learned in life’s hardest lessons. I know the feeling of freedom on a mountaintop covered in mud, the way rain can cleanse a soul, and the feeling of fear that can subside in someone when I hold them close.
