Biography

I am an experienced researcher and registered nurse with a Master's degree in Public Health. I am deeply committed to addressing healthcare disparities among women of color in underserved communities. My expertise encompasses maternal health, health advocacy, health education, and nutrition. With 15 years of dedicated service in community health settings and a robust background in critical care, I bring a comprehensive perspective to advancing health equity.

Passion

Advancing health equity and witnessing women of color advocate for their health fills me with immense joy. Being able to empower women in underserved communities by teaching them how to care for themselves and their loved ones is a true privilege. My mission is to elevate the health of those who feel voiceless by educating them, students, healthcare providers, and the general public about health and nutrition. This work is not just my profession; it's my calling and my passion.

Origin Story

Twenty years ago, one of my closest friends tragically lost his wife during the birth of their second child. As a single father, he continues to grapple with this immense loss, as does their son, who never had the chance to meet his mother. They had met in college in Boston—she was from Washington, DC, and he was a native of Brooklyn, NY. They dreamed of a life filled with happiness together. Her death could have been avoided if she had received proper healthcare and been able to advocate for herself.

My heart aches for my friend as he navigates life, still searching for answers. With the support of his community—her parents and siblings in Washington, DC, and his family from the South—he has done an incredible job raising his sons. One son has graduated from college and is now working in the music industry, while the youngest is serving actively in the Air Force. Despite these achievements, my friend feels more lost than ever now that the initial chaos has settled.

Hearing countless stories from friends about their healthcare experiences, it's heartbreaking and disheartening to realize that quality healthcare is not accessible to everyone. The disparity in healthcare is a significant and ongoing issue that needs to be addressed.
