Biography

’m Sofía Castillo, a 26-year-old driven by my own health and economic challenges. At 16, I committed to supporting the development of my region, leading NGOs and law initiatives. By 18, I embarked on a self-driven career path focused on Systems Innovation, deepening my experience in technology, employability, and well-being.

Starting at age 20, I began working as an advisor in co-creation, technology, and innovation for companies and universities such as Procter & Gamble, Grupo Pantaleón, Draper University in Silicon Valley, Universidad Francisco Marroquín, and others. At 21, I founded my first tech company, Core Code.

Core Code was formalized in 2021 with the mission of training Central American software developers and connecting them with companies. A year and a half into its operation, we received an acquisition offer from Simera, a Boston-based company that connects Latin American talent with international remote jobs.

Six months after the acquisition, I became a co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer at Simera, where I developed a vision to make hiring a seamless process for all using Artificial Intelligence.

I’ve been recognized as a Top 100 Business Woman and Business Promise by Forbes in Central America, Woman Transformational Leader in Innovation and Excellence in the Region by INCAE Business School 2024, and Business Leader 2024 by CACIF, among others. Today, I also serve as Director on the Board of ITO AGEXPORT and as an impact advisor.

Passion

To optimize systems through technology for humans to flourish and to contribute to the development of the Central American region.

Best Story

I was born and raised in Guatemala, and from the ages of 16 to 18, I struggled with a condition that kept me bedridden. People thought I wouldn’t come back from that, but I decided that I still wanted to contribute to this world, regardless of what the doctors predicted. Through experimenting and building, I founded an impact company at 21, and by 23, I had successfully sold it.

Origin Story

Born and raised in Guatemala, I grew up as an overachiever in everything I did. Grew up with economic and health problems. People thought I was a lost case, but I decided to build things that would impact my region. I decided to build towards inclusion and wealth development for people like me, so I started building impact companies. Not much of an academic, but a pragmatic innovator.
