Kristin is a seasoned special needs planner with a passion for working with caregivers of children with developmental disabilities. She can speak to the beauty of working through difficult obstacles with those you love, and finding yourself in the process. As a mother of two children with disabilities, and a survivor of a traumatic brain injury, Kristin understands both what it's like to have a pervasive disability, and to be a caregiver to others with disabilities. Her passion is to show families how they can thrive through her care, protect, and grow process.
Showing the world the value of caregiving and the societal importance of providing community and protection and support for ALL members. We gain so much from those with disabilities, and yet value them so little. Showing how much we have to gain by giving more space, more support, and more value to those with disabilities is my passion and my strength.
Ten years ago I was in a skiing accident that changed my life. It was the end of the day, and I was at the bottom of the hill, waiting for my fiance to get down the mountain. And someone ran directly into me from behind. I hit my head on the ice, and was then out of work recovering for the next year. Exactly one year later from that accident I got pregnant. That was not a coincidence! I experienced disability through a dramatic change in functioning. Then later had two kids with diagnosed disabilities. I have since realized i have adhd and autism. All of these experiences and discoveries have changed my life - and you can learn from my experience. Your value doesn't come from your intelligence, your interests, your talent at sports, or anything else you may have been born with. It comes from the choices you make every day. Where you direct your time and attention. Who you choose to be today is determined by your thoughts, which lead to ideas, which lead to words and actions. Make them count.
Five years ago, I learned of my son's diagnosis in-utero. I tried to control what I could control at that point, and that led me to seek out resources to try and build the best financial plan for him that I possibly could. The plan I had built up to that point was completely underwater. I searched for resources, and the messages I received from almost every person I spoke to was that it was all up to me. I was going to be the expert on my son, and be responsible for making sure he received the care and support he deserved. I felt that was not how the world should be. Community and professional support should wrap people with disabilities with welcoming and inclusive supports, instead of putting all of the responsibility on the families! That led me to create my own company with two other special needs moms who have the same vision. Together, we plan to change the world!
