Best Story

After divorcing, I became responsible for my two young daughters. I knew I had to figure out how my lifelong trauma had affected how I was showing up everyday. I began my journey and attended something called Psychodrama. So, can you imagine voluntarily signing up to relive your traumas with a group of people every six weeks? Yeah, I know. One evening at the end of a very challenging day, the facilitator asked my "Stephanie, why did you become and anesthesiologist?" After asking me three times, I finally asked her to tell me because I obviously didn't know. I must say she was a very large and intimidating woman. She said, "Damnit Stephanie, you have lived everyday of your life numb, and what do you do everyday as an anesthesiologist, you make people numb so they don't feel the worst possible things that could be done to them in the operating room."

It was an epiphany. My life flashed before me and I could see myself physically present and mentally numb. This was the beginning of a journey to become UNNUMB.
