Best Story

It was a typical Tuesday afternoon and I walked into my managers office for our weekly routine. My intention was to set expectations for my performance over the next few weeks. because I was struggling - although I was operating in a familiar role I had switch from hardware to software and the change in engineering language was more difficult than expected. On top, the last 3 months had presented me with a string of heavy life events including - sudden death of a family member, home robbery (like took a crowbar to the wall), and discovered I may never be able to have children. To say the least I was going through a lot - yet all I wanted to was set his expectations as I got through this rough patch. His response changed my life forever.

My manager looked across the table at me and said, 'If you are not burnout your are extremely close. You have 30 minutes to leave the building, work is no longer your concern. You do not return until after you have met with the company doctor.' As the woman who had always been able to make it happen - I was in shock. I explained that I couldn't possibility be burnt out, I had too much to do and this was simply a phase. In the end, I negotiated 4 hours to write a transfer email.

With the pressure of work off, I collapsed into a heap on the couch and don't remember the next 4 weeks. Numb to my life and disconnected from my relationships I was forced to make a decision – quit the career I love or find another new way.

Frustrated with fluffy wellness advice, I started creating my own systems that not only enabled me to recover from that burnout but break the cycle of exhaustion that had resulted in not 1 but 3.5 burnouts during my 20 years career in semiconductor engineering. I returned to my career in corporate and thrived even with balancing the demands of a newborn. How do I know? I have the data to prove it.

... at this point in the talk I can go many directions based on the audience/agenda ...
In a workshop - we dive into one of the data-driven frameworks or burnout symptoms
In a presentation to leadership - we dive into how to identify burnout out in our team & create safe spaces

Example talks

Breaking the Cycle of Exhaustion with Data

Learn the one question you need to remove the fluff from traditional wellbeing advice and make it measurable. During the presentation I will share data-driven approach to burnout prevention that helps us understand why we’re always feeling tired, the difference between exhaustion and burnout & what we can do about it based on data rather than emotion.

This talk can be given in 20/30 minutes or extended with additional energy management exercises to further empower the audience.

Take aways:
- a new model to understand exhaustion and where their energy is going
- a toolkit for tracking their energy levels

This presentation is accompanied by a handout (physical or digital) to help gather the insights during the session that can be used as a reference after the presentation.

Feedback:
"unbelievably honest lecture with so much empathy and genuineness. just very inspiring and so well illustrated"

"this very much speaks to me and my experiences. Looking forward to implement your tipps soon ![🙂]"

""I liked your engineering (simulink-ready) model of exhaustion, never seen that before. I think it's a lucky coincidence of you talent for (1) introspection, (2) analytics, and (3) communication at the same time."

Intentionally Awesome without a Plan

Discover a framework based on engineering principles to get unstuck and starting crafting your uniquely awesome business without needing to have it all figured out first. We replace planning with expansion. Learn how awareness of your current situation, coupled with curiosity and micro-experimentations can help create sustainable and predictable energy and ease for your business without having to make 'risky' radical changes.

The framework is simple so I would love to do some live Q&A to show it in action, I can do this in 30 minutes or 60 minutes to allow more time for live 'coaching'.

Take-away:
After this session the audience will know how to use the AWEsome Tuning Loop to help them get unstuck and create action. They will have live examples of how to use it & maybe some coaching for their specific use-cases.

This could also have a handout after the presentation but it is not necessary.
