Biography

Tia Benning dedicated much of her adult life to serving as a soldier, embarking on her military journey alongside her husband when they both enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1995. Over the course of 28 years, Tia excelled as an Information Technology professional, progressing from the rank of Specialist to Colonel.

Throughout her distinguished career, Tia held command positions at various levels, from company to brigade, and served in diverse locations including FT Campbell, KY, FT Monroe, VA, FT Knox, KY, and the Pentagon. She completed multiple deployments, including a peacekeeping tour to Kosovo, two combat tours to Iraq, and two combat tours to Afghanistan.

Tia's commitment to education paralleled her military achievements, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, followed by a Master's degree in the same field, and ultimately attaining a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy. Her military education ranged from the Primary Leadership Development Course to the prestigious Dwight D. Eisenhower School, a Joint War College in Washington, DC.

Now retired from active duty, Tia serves as an IT Director for Peraton, where she continues to leverage her expertise and experience in the field of information technology. Beyond her professional endeavors, Tia remains dedicated to giving back to her community and inspiring others through a life of service and support.

Passion

During my military service, I came to recognize that my true passion lay in assisting others. Witnessing individuals achieve their goals, undergo personal growth, or excel as a result of our interactions never failed to bring joy to my heart.

Best Story

My name is Tia Benning and I am a united states army brat!! Ask me any question except “where are you from?” Growing up without a “hometown affiliation”, made answering that question like crafting a thesis for my entry into yale!! So... My answer became: “The kid from everywhere…. And nowhere” - it was catchy, it was memorable, and it was comfortable.

As an army brat, I un-intentionally followed in my father’s footsteps. I say that because I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up so when my then fiancé and now husband said, “let’s join the army!” I said, “what???!!!” And in the same sentence, “well….ok!” (Because when you combine not knowing what you want to be with "I’m in love!", army basic training just might become your future!)

Fast forward - a career in information technology, one husband, two kids, two dogs, and one turtle (RIP); 12 family moves, 5 deployments and 28 years of military service - here I am!

Nevertheless, as fulfilling and rewarding as this journey has been, I felt a growing restlessness that something was missing…..
As that gentle tug became stronger, and my mentors urged me to continue to compete for the highest levels of military leadership, I recently made the decision to retire and pursue my purpose.
Now what that is, I am not exactly sure but after living a life of networks and “ones and zeros”, I’ve found that what kept me motivated as a leader was the people with whom I’ve served.
Therefore, my personal revelation for this new chapter in my life is that I am not “the kid from everywhere and nowhere”... I am right where I need to be - equipped with life’s lessons and experiences to set myself on a path to meet, motivate, and encourage others… because PEOPLE are my thing!!!

Origin Story

Throughout my journey, I've been consumed by the quest to unveil my purpose, pondering endlessly about which path to take. Yet, amidst the confusion, I've come to a profound realization: every seemingly insignificant step I've taken has played a crucial role in sculpting my path to purpose. It's as though each action, no matter how small, has been a brushstroke on the canvas of my life, gradually revealing the masterpiece of my destiny.

And now, as I stand at the woodline of my existence, I understand that it's not about finding the perfect path, but rather about embracing the process of creating it.

For those brave enough to delve deep into the undergrowth of their lives, to confront the challenges and do the necessary work, their unique path to purpose will inevitably emerge. It's in the breaking of barriers and the brushing away of doubts that true clarity and fulfillment are found. #BreakBrush
