-Work supporting cyber operations response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and calling a small software engineering company to alert of compromised infrastructure
Cristiana Brafman Kittner is a senior cyber security and defense professional with significant experience providing analytical, research, and policy expertise to leaders and stakeholders in government and private industry on cybersecurity issues and policies.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Crist spent her formative years there until 1990, when she moved to London, England to complete her studies at an international secondary school. This early exposure to a diverse range of cultures and perspectives helped shape her worldview and eagerness to learn more about international relations.
After graduating from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Military History, Cris furthered her education with a Mediation and Conflict Resolution Certificate from Erasmus University. She began her career as a Research Associate in various military history focused think tanks before moving to the private sector in 2006 as a defense contractor for Decisive Analytics Corporation. That pivot was driven by Cris' ambition to learn more about the policies related to military satellite strategy and the nascent field of cybersecurity. She served for almost 10 years as an intelligence analyst, and during this time, she joined the NIST Cyber Framework working groups in 2013-2014.
In 2015, Cristiana moved full-time to a cyber threat analyst role at iSIGHT Partners, which through various acquisitions is now part of Mandiant Intelligence at Google Cloud. In her current role as Chief Analyst for Google Cloud’s Product Security Engineering, Cristiana leads multiple projects that provide intelligence on cybersecurity trends and attack landscape, and drives hardening and mitigations of products prior to general releasability. She is a frequent speaker at industry events and has published articles on topics such as counter-terrorism, cyber threat intelligence, and cybersecurity best practices.
Cybersecurity isn't just about technology; it’s fundamentally about people. Cybersecurity's human element is undeniable. It is not merely about firewalls and code; it's a human game. Recognizing the link between psychology and psychological safety in cybersecurity frontlines, particularly within incident response, is crucial.
