Origin Story

My name is Kathryn, and for a decade, I dedicated myself to teaching in public schools. I poured my heart into nurturing young minds, aiming to create environments where my students could thrive academically and emotionally. However, as the years passed, I began to realize there was a growing need for more focused attention on the social and emotional well-being of my students.

This realization led me to transition into the social and emotional learning specialist role. Here, I immersed myself in understanding the complexities of trauma and its impact on young lives. It was during this phase of my life that everything changed.

Moved by the struggles of children who had experienced trauma, my husband and I made the life-changing decision to open our hearts and home to a sibling group of four. Through the journey of adoption, I witnessed firsthand the profound effects of trauma on my children and myself. I realized that to truly support them, I needed to embark on a journey of personal growth and healing.

Driven by my experiences as both an educator and a mother, I found myself leading a high school girls' leadership program. Here, I witnessed the transformative power of identifying strengths and fostering resilience in young women. Inspired by their resilience, I became determined to raise awareness about trauma's effects while empowering individuals to recognize their inherent strengths.

With compassion and experience guiding me, I dedicated myself to helping others understand trauma's effects and discover their resilience. I created my business, Wildewood Learning, which helps schools and organizations that work with families, children, and youth decrease staff burnout and turnover by integrating trauma-sensitive resiliency practices with staff. When staff feel better, we all do better. It’s how safe, effective, and engaging learning and workplace environments are created!
