Biography

Kara Peterson is the co-founder of descrybe.ai, a justice tech startup aimed at democratizing access to the law. She started the company with her husband and co-founder Richard DiBona in July 2023 as a way to leverage AI to help address the access to justice crisis in the United States. Kara leads the company’s marketing and business development functions.

In addition to being a justice tech entrepreneur, Kara is also a marketing communications executive who focuses on organizations with a social justice focus. She currently is the Senior Director of Integrated Marketing Communications at the Museum of Science, Boston and previously held roles as the Chief Communications Officer at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and as the Executive Director of Communications at the Boston University School of Public Health.

Kara also volunteers extensively across the tech ecosystem, both in the Boston area and beyond. She is currently the chair of the communications committee at the Justice Technology Association, a member of the Responsible AI in Legal Services (RAILS) Special Committee on Communications and Resources based at Duke Center on Law & Technology, and a member of the all-volunteer AI Blueprint for Massachusetts, which strives to coordinate and implement practical and tactical efforts to improve to attract and retain AI talent for New England.

A recognized voice for responsible tech and using tech for good, Kara is a frequent guest on podcasts and a speaker at in-person events. She is also an active member of several women in AI and women in legal tech groups across the US.

Kara earned her MBA at Boston University and her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin. Kara lives in Greater Boston with her husband, two human children, and two canine children.
