Biography

Sandy A. Lane is a business consultant, keynote speaker, and strategist focused on the intersection of people, profitability, and business growth.

With a background in finance, leadership, and co-founding a healthcare startup, Sandy brings real-world business experience to conversations about what actually drives long-term success. Her work challenges the outdated idea that businesses must choose between people and profits, showing instead how the strongest organizations understand the value created where the two intersect.

Through practical, energetic, and thought-provoking presentations, Sandy helps business owners, founders, and leadership teams rethink growth, leadership, customer experience, workplace culture, and organizational value through a more connected lens.

Known for her relatable storytelling and strategic perspective, Sandy’s signature message, “People First. Profits Follow.” reframes profit not as the goal alone, but as the result of creating meaningful value for employees, customers, partners, investors, and communities alike.

Based in Durango, Colorado, Sandy works with growth-focused organizations looking to build stronger businesses through smarter people-centered strategy.

Passion

I love watching people come alive when they realize the worth they bring to the world as they shine their value proposition. I accept people in their real but share great happiness with them as they achieve their ideal.

Best Story

My best current-day story is the chance meeting with my husband and, against all odds, maintaining a long-distance relationship (550 miles) for almost ten years and with seven combined children. Our end story of staying together, happily married, and now living a wonderful mountain life together came from valuing each other through differences and obstacles.

My best opening and closing keynote story is on a photo my mom found from the 1930s in her family genealogy work. She spent a year identifying the couple. My open story of the photo and questions behind it work through the background of my speed to the close, where I reveal their end stories (one died young, and one lived through old age.) I share their value proposition, which I learned through later interviews with family, and their connection to life's purpose, regardless of the length.

Origin Story

I grew up in a small town in Iowa. My graduating class had 44 students, and I lived an idyllic childhood with a close-knit family and most extended family a short drive away. My dad was the town barber with one grandpa, the town vet, and the other running the farmer's co-op. Without getting on an airplane until age 19, I knew little outside my Midwestern beginnings.

After graduating from a small liberal arts college nine miles from my hometown, I ventured to neighboring Nebraska, where I started my career as a CPA. I was hired as the only female equity partner in the firm's history, knowing no one. I worked my way up the ranks while having a significant book of business and developing a healthcare department in the firm. A self-made woman, I left the firm to be a founding partner of a large healthcare start-up.

I attended the honors of 40 under 40 for Omaha, Nebraska, and was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Omahans in 2006. I served on dozens of boards and committees and appeared to be at the height of happiness. But I wasn't.

My reality was an impending divorce (with three young sons) and at a point in my career where I felt devalued and purposeless. I left my corporate life to eventually remarry and rebrand myself as a consultant, coach, and speaker to share my learnings on the connection of value (values, valued, valuing) to ongoing happiness. I now live in beautiful Durango, Colorado, with my husband and dog, enjoying mountain life and working with passion and value.
