Igniting personal potential, Achieving against the odds, Building Teams that Thrive
My husband and I volunteered for years in a deprived area of Philadelphia. We would leave work and spent 4-6 hours a week teaching, tutoring and mentoring youth in the neighborhood. We found such joy pouring wisdom and teaching life skills to them. Many of them didn't have stable parental guidance and they gravitated to us, considering us to be a safe space. The feeling I got when their eyes lit up when they "got" a concept or improved in behavior or grades or both cannot be compared to anything else. My passion was ignited, and I have been chasing the light in the eyes of my audiences ever since.
I grew up the daughter of a Pastor, and many times the messaging would go over the children's heads. I found myself reteaching them the lessons the adults were comprehending just fine. I was able to understand and translate the information so they could grasp it. At 13, I found myself teaching children at church, and my class grew so big, we got too big for our classroom. To have adults introduce me to their children as their first teacher, the one who taught them how to love God warms my heart. Though i mostly teach adults now, I see remnants of where it all began; I'm exciting, motivating, and am highly skilled at breaking down complex content into understandable chunks.
