Hey there, I'm Jaclyn Murphy, a Senior Sales Engineer at Splunk, a data analytics, and security company. For the past eight years, I've been deeply immersed in the cybersecurity space. It all started when I found my passion for security while working at a small IT audit and security testing firm, supporting community banks.
Interestingly, technology wasn't my first career choice, but I feel incredibly privileged to have stumbled into this field. Security became my true calling, and I'm insanely passionate about it. I'm dedicated to continuously learning in this ever-changing landscape and supporting women in the cybersecurity field.
Now, as a Senior Sales Engineer, I bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and real-world security challenges, helping clients find robust data analytics and security solutions. It's a journey I wouldn't trade for anything, and I'm determined to make a positive impact every step of the way.
In both personal and professional spheres, I am driven by unwavering passions that define who I am.
On the personal front, I find immense joy in being a first-time mom to the world's most precious little girl. My family holds a special place in my heart, and I cherish every moment with them.
Another personal passion of mine is animal advocacy. I have a soft spot for stray dogs and often find myself bringing them home to provide care and love until I can find them a forever home.
And let's not forget my love for all things red wine! Savoring a glass of red wine, especially after a fulfilling day, is one of life's simple pleasures that brings me relaxation and enjoyment.
When it comes to my professional endeavors, my passion for female advocacy takes center stage, particularly within the technology space. As a mother to a daughter, I am deeply motivated to create an inclusive and empowering environment for women in the tech industry. Building opportunities, breaking barriers, and supporting women's growth and success are instrumental to me.
Security has been a focal point of my professional interests. I thrive in the realm of security testing and cybersecurity, always seeking ways to enhance protection against potential threats. The ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity presents exciting challenges, and I find great fulfillment in tackling them head-on.
Beyond security, my curiosity is sparked by the advancements of AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning). I believe in the potential of this transformative technology and am dedicated to exploring ways to capitalize on its benefits for various industries. Embracing AI/ML responsibly and ethically to drive innovation is a vision I continuously strive to bring to fruition.
In summary, my life is defined by my love for family, my dedication to animal advocacy, and my commitment to female empowerment in the technology field. With a profound interest in security, cybersecurity, and the advancements of AI/ML, I am passionate about creating positive change and making a lasting impact in both my personal and professional endeavors.
I had the incredible opportunity to mentor a young and ambitious female intern named Sarah during her last year of college. Sarah was studying computer science and had joined the Splunk Intern Program for an eight-week immersive experience. Little did I know that those eight weeks would change my life and leave an indelible mark on both of our careers.
As her mentor, I was determined to provide Sarah with the support she needed to excel in her technical skills while also addressing any personal challenges she might face. We dove into projects together, delving into the intricacies of data analytics and security. We worked through coding puzzles, analyzed real-world cybersecurity scenarios, and engaged in countless technical discussions.
Throughout our journey together, I witnessed Sarah's growth and determination. It was evident that she had a true passion for this field, and I felt immense pride in helping her realize her potential. As the weeks flew by, we built a strong bond, sharing stories, insights, and laughter. Our mentor-mentee relationship blossomed into a genuine friendship.
Finally, the day came when Sarah received her offer letter from Splunk, and I could hardly contain my excitement. The feeling of gratitude that overwhelmed me was unlike anything I had ever experienced. I was so proud to see her hard work and dedication recognized by the company. Knowing that I played a part in her journey filled me with joy and fulfillment.
Sarah's success and our shared experience have driven me to create a nurturing and communicative space for women in the industry. I want to ensure that they, too, have the opportunity to explore the vast possibilities that this field has to offer. Mentoring Sarah ignited a fire within me, and I'm determined to pay it forward, fostering a supportive environment for all women pursuing careers in technology.
In the end, the short but transformative journey with Sarah has taught me the true meaning of mentorship and its ability to create lasting impacts on both mentor and mentee. As I continue to support and empower women in the cybersecurity and technology space, I am reminded of the immense potential within each person, waiting to be nurtured and guided toward greatness.
