Best Story

In psychotherapy, the therapist’s empathy for the client can help the client comprehend their underlying cognitive and emotional patterns. Imagine, as a leader, if you had this skill to help your employees or team members understand their thoughts, feelings, biases, motivations or lack thereof, and behaviors toward their work. Wouldn’t it be magic?

A magic like that happened to one of my clients. Barbara, frustrated by her team's resistance to her leadership, sought my help. We focused on building her empathy skills, as her perfectionism and high standards hindered her ability to connect with her team.
She was overly critical, driven by productivity, and low tolerance for failure. In one session, she vented about a team member's defiance and tardiness. I interrupted her rant to ask if she knew what was happening in the team member's life outside of work. She curiously asked, “Should I?” I said, “Not really, but a little curiosity and support can go a long way.”
Barbara paused, realizing she hadn't considered this. I assigned her that the next time she sees that team member in person, she should make good eye contact and tell her this like she means it: ‘Jen, I am not sure what you have on your plate outside of work; I sense it might be a lot since you seem overwhelmed. Please let me know if I could be of any help.”
She followed through, approaching Jen with empathy and offering assistance.
When Barbara later reported back, she was amazed at the positive response. The team member, touched by Barbara's gesture, became more responsive, leading Barbara to describe the change as "like magic."

Yes, it is magic when you connect with others at an emotional level. It doesn’t require much of you except a new perspective on things.

Once you understand and apply empathy to your relationships (be it personal or professional), transformation is easy.

Origin Story

My journey started when I battled with depression during my sophomore year of college—this dark period led me to psychology. Through a required course, I discovered my passion for understanding human behavior and immersed myself in self-help and self-healing. I learned to be kind and non-judgmental towards myself, realizing that happiness doesn’t have to be earned.

My newfound passion became my career path. I changed my major, earned three degrees in psychology, and have supported mental health for nearly 20 years, including 17 years in private practice. I explore the connections between counseling, Eastern philosophies, and quantum mechanics, believing in our profound interconnectedness.

As a licensed professional counselor, certified clinical mental health counselor, executive coach, and public speaker, I focus on leadership development and fostering empathy in the workplace. My robust background in well-being and mental health has uniquely shaped my approach to cultivating leadership qualities and empathy. I specialize in leadership development, emotional intelligence, and creating empathetic workplaces. Additionally, I am dedicated to fostering workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), providing innovative solutions to these challenges.

Helping others achieve mental health and wellness is incredibly rewarding. I love motivating disengaged employees to re-engage and improve their lives and work. Whether addressing one individual or 1,000, I feel alive when I help someone connect with their higher self rather than being stuck with the conditioned ego. I have helped numerous leaders connect with their authentic Self through empathy to build strong teams and organizations.
