Biography

Ms. Sasha Link, MFA, ABD

Sasha Link is an educator, journalist, leadership coach, and storyteller who believes our greatest competitive advantage in an increasingly technology-driven world remains profoundly human.

A Visiting Assistant Interdisciplinary Professor, former newspaper journalist, and founder of SHIFT Consultancy, Sasha has spent her career helping students, professionals, and organizations discover the transformative power of communication, relationships, and belonging. She teaches public speaking, storytelling, creative writing, and leadership while consulting with schools, nonprofits, and organizations on communication, professional development, and human-centered leadership.

Currently completing her PhD in the Humanities, Sasha's research explores how contemplative, collectivist approaches foster belonging and improve success for first-generation college students. Her work bridges higher education, coaching, civic engagement, and organizational leadership, demonstrating that meaningful change begins when people feel seen, heard, and connected.

As a certified coach and consultant, mediator, and trainer of mediators, Sasha combines scholarship with lived experience to help audiences build authentic relationships, communicate with purpose, and lead with generosity. Whether speaking to educators, executives, entrepreneurs, or emerging leaders, she equips audiences with practical strategies that strengthen human connection in workplaces, classrooms, and communities.

Her signature keynote, Leading First: The Human Skills That Open Every Door, challenges audiences to rethink success, not as individual achievement, but as the ability to create opportunities for others.

Sasha's mission is simple:

"I believe success isn't measured by how far we climb, but by how many people can climb because we chose to go first. I help people become the first in their family to change everything. Then I teach them to build bridges, hold doors open, and create opportunities so others can walk through with confidence."

Passion

I am passionate about helping people become who they were created to be. My work is rooted in the belief that success is not measured solely by personal achievement but by our willingness to build bridges, hold doors open, and create opportunities for others. Whether I am teaching, coaching, writing, or speaking, my mission is to cultivate belonging, inspire courageous leadership, and empower people to leave a legacy that changes families, organizations, and communities for generations to come.

Best Story

I call myself a lineage shifter.

I wasn't born into wealth or generational privilege. I was raised, however, by hardworking parents who never earned more than $80,000 combined, but they possessed many traits that money can't buy: wisdom, spiritual foresight, and rich lived experiences. Like many first-generation students, I learned to navigate spaces and show up to places that weren't always built with people like me in mind.

Along the way, I became many firsts: a journalist, college professor, leadership coach, consultant, doctoral candidate, entrepreneur, and single mother raising a daughter while caring for aging parents. Each role taught me that success isn't about reaching the top alone; it's about making the climb easier for those who follow.

In my keynote, I share the defining moments that taught me the true currency of leadership isn't titles or credentials; it's relationships, generosity, courage, and the willingness to build bridges instead of walls. I explore how those human skills transformed my own life and continue to shape my work with students, educators, organizations, and leaders.

My hope is that audiences leave believing they don't have to be the most qualified person in the room to create lasting impact. They simply have to be willing to go first.

As I often say:

"I believe success isn't measured by how far we climb, but by how many people can climb because we chose to go first. I help people become the first in their family to change everything. Then I teach them to build bridges, hold doors open, and create opportunities so others can walk through with confidence."

Origin Story

Long before I became a professor, journalist, coach, or consultant, I was simply a curious little girl in the backseat of my parents' car, watching the world go by. I asked questions about everything. I noticed people others overlooked. I listened to conversations, collected stories, and wondered what made people become who they were.

That curiosity became journalism.

Journalism became storytelling.

Storytelling became teaching.

Teaching became coaching.

And coaching became my life's mission.

As I pursued higher education, became a first-generation scholar, raised my daughter as a single mother, cared for aging parents, and built my career across journalism, higher education, and consulting, I began to recognize a common thread: every meaningful opportunity in my life was created through human connection.

The mentors who believed in me.

The colleagues who opened doors.

The students who trusted me with their stories.

The communities that welcomed me.

Those experiences transformed the way I define success.

Today, I don't simply teach communication or leadership. I help people discover the courage to become the first—the first graduate, the first entrepreneur, the first leader, the first person to rewrite their family's story. More importantly, I challenge them to make sure they are not the last.

Everything I do—from teaching and coaching to writing and speaking—is rooted in one belief:

I believe success isn't measured by how far we climb, but by how many people can climb because we chose to go first. I help people become the first in their family to change everything. Then I teach them to build bridges, hold doors open, and create opportunities so others can walk through with confidence.

Because the greatest legacy we leave isn't what we accomplish for ourselves; it's the opportunities we create for others.
