Everything is negotiable
I want to talk to you today about a subject that's near and dear to my heart: cybersecurity in the food industry. And I want to do it using a metaphor that may seem a little unconventional, but stick with me. Gorillas. Yes, gorillas. You see, as a researcher, I had the opportunity to work with a troop of bachelor gorillas, and let me tell you, these creatures are the epitome of security resilience.
My journey began in IT by chance. I was hired as a tech administrator and tasked with handling the customer-facing responsibilities that the tech-savvy team members shied away from. This experience taught me how to both build and repair computers and other devices, and I discovered my natural talent for technology and calming people in times of technological distress. Later, I reluctantly ventured into the world of cybersecurity. At first, I was frustrated with the lack of collaboration and support from the security industry, but I was looking for a new challenge and the salary in cybersecurity was attractive, so I took the leap. I soon found my niche in manufacturing security and food manufacturing security, and I was thrilled to travel the world while working in this field. However, it was my epiphany that people and processes were often a more effective solution than just adding technology that led to the launch of my company. Through talking with food safety, food defense, and food science professionals at a conference, I realized that many of the challenges they faced were similar to those in the cybersecurity industry. This realization reignited my passion, and I have been excited to help the food industry tackle these challenges with increased resilience ever since the launch of my company, AnzenSage.
