I've spent the past 10 years building products and managing product development teams. I am currently on the product team at Quantopian, where we are building the world’s first crowd sourced hedge fund. I work on our cloud based algorithmic trading platform, on which our users and community members research investment ideas, write algorithms to invest in the market, backtest their ideas against historical data and then build track records in the hopes of future investment.
I like to tell stories and enjoy sharing my experiences so that others might learn from them. I'm current really excited about IPython and how I am using it to analyze elements of my personal and professional life.
Before coming to Quantopian, I spent time working on the investing team at Matrix Partners where I helped evaluate potential investments and supported portfolio companies. I also spent 5 years on the product team at HubSpot, where I was responsible for building the first version of many of their inbound marketing tools. Prior to HubSpot, I spent 5 years managing content publishing development projects for clients such as NBC, iVillage.com, TheStreet.com, Stockpickr.com and GiftCertificates.com.
After 12 years working in software and launching countless new software products, I've recently launched my first piece of hardware (https://www.owllabs.com/meeting-owl). In this talk I will discuss the key differences in working in hardware and software specially around the challenges with getting customer feedback, running betas and planning for and executing a launch.
This is a talk for business people who are interested in next level data analysis. Three years ago, while working at Quantopian, I realized that Excel wasn't going to cut it as a data analysis tool any longer. I had a choice of how to grow my personal data analysis skill set. In this talk, I discuss why I chose Python, how I've used it and how it has expanded my abilities and career.
Upon joining Quantopian, in order to understand my users better, I embarked on a project to learn how quants research, write and trade algorithms to invest in the market. Over the course of a year, I explored what would happen if you invested in women-led companies and learned about the challenges of writing profitable investment strategies.
In this talk, I walk through the highs and lows of my research from initial data gathering and cleansing to strategy validation and trading.
