Telling stories about women's growth, development, and leadership, whether through my novels, speeches, or my blogs. I love to inspire women to take the risks they need to maintain their integrity and thrive, even in uncertain times.
It was a beautiful summer day, and I was preparing to take my first solo aerobatic flight. . . and yes! that means turning an airplane upside down. However, what kept running through my mind was my friend who had died, just a few weeks prior, doing one of the maneuvers I had to practice. Still, I was prepared. I had practiced. I was ready. So, I strapped on my parachute, got into the airplane, and headed out to the practice area. I decided to do a loop first, because that was easiest for me. I got up the speed and pulled backward. Pulling, pulling. As I pushed over the top, my heart was in my throat. Wings level. Rudder steady. Push for a minute. Then next thing I knew I was rushing down the other side of the loop. My heart soaring! I had done it! In that moment, all I could feel was joy and accomplishment. And that's what I want for you!
I had a very successful corporate career but found myself feeling unfulfilled, like something was missing in my life. Despite having a secure, well-paying job, I felt that i wasn't living up to my full potential and using all my skills and talents. My ah-ha moment was realizing that I deserved to live the life I was meant to live AND that that life was how I could make my best contribution to the world.
Today's world is full of uncertainty and chaos. It's hard for leaders to be calm, confident, and positive for their teams when they themselves are in turmoil. I teach foundational techniques to help people navigate uncertainty with true confidence, including Acceptance, Courage, Clarity, and Celebration.
Women are often shamed for speaking up and asking for what they want, they’re called aggressive or pushy, but asking for what you want is the only way to get it. I discuss the impediments that women face to speaking up, the social constructs that keep us silent, and suggest ways to break free and truly get your needs met. (Specifically for female audiences)
Risk-taking is often praised in organizations and society, but it's often not rewarded, especially for women. However, risk-taking is the key to success and, more important fulfillment. I discuss the differences in risk profiles between men and women, the costs of not-taking risks, the benefits of taking risks, and five steps to improve one's risk-taking muscles.
This talk is geared towards women and women leaders but can be adapted for a mixed audience of men and women.
