Before I was a financial professional, I worked in Hollywood and then became a teacher. You could say I was raised with a silver spoon in my mouth and being my father's only daughter, he pushed me to college prep schools and a very hard college. I was well educated and an avid reader. I was what you would think of as a strong female. However, I never got to learn anything about finance. When I asked my dad about the stock market and how it worked, he pretty much patted me on the head and told me not to worry about it.
When I got married 13 years ago, my husband wanted a mate to make decisions with. We had just bought our first house, which was a process I didn't know much about so I didn't really get very involved, we were sitting in our living room and my husband asked if we should do something with our extra cash to get a better interest rate or rate or return. I frozen and sunk into the couch. This was one of those uncomfortable situations that I didn't know quite what he was talking about and I was so embarrassed, I didn't want to ask or show I was confused. I felt so stupid in that moment. I told him to leave it where it was and he nodded and went back to looking at our finances alone.
I remember that feeling of not understanding and feeling so ashamed for not being perfect in this area because it was a basic skill, right? If I was intelligent, I would know it. It was ok to not know as I didn't get that education as many women don't. We feel sub-human because we don't think we know what to do or what all of the fancy terminology means when it comes to money and investing. It's time to stop shamming ourselves and stepping into our power. Asking questions and getting some education is the place to start.
Lisa’s story began like many origin stories do, in Hollywood. Three years after graduating from Kenyon College, Lisa was working for a well-established film producer when she noticed he was green lighting projects that didn’t align with her values. She was sitting at a car wash getting the producer’s car detailed for the fourth time that week when she realized: I want to make a difference!
After trying careers in education and then insurance, she found her calling: providing financial advice and planning for female professionals and their growing families.
With the heart of a servant and the mind of a teacher, Lisa is always available to help you when you need her most, but especially when you think you don’t need her.
"I'm not good at Math so my financial life is a mess." This is what I hear from so many women I speak to. The barriers we create for ourselves leaves us feeling confused and, secretly, ashamed of our financial situation, no matter how we stand. We get that icky feeling inside when we begin talking about anything that has to do with money. I talk about how to break some of those barriers, find your why, and baby step habits to get you to your goals faster. Financial Independence is the goal and it's not that far out of reach. I teach how to leverage your dollars to live a lifestyle you love.
