As an emotional intelligence expert, keynote speaker, and sought-after executive coach, I work with my clients how to integrate emotions, curiosity, and authentic connection to drive engagement and high-performance in the workplace. I also help clients to effectively use the f-word (not the one you were thinking of…FEELINGS) to unlock the best version themselves and their teams.
Dubbed a practical alchemist, my no-BS approach combined with a healthy dose of magic mixed in yields extraordinary results for those who are ready to take the leap.
My professional experience includes leadership coaching and consulting with Fortune 500 companies, national nonprofits, Department of Defense and federal agencies, to family-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. I’m an early-stage startup advisor and work to promote entrepreneurial and economic development the communities where I work and live.
When I’m not coaching, speaking, consulting, or living the retreat life, I live near San Antonio, TX with my two young daughters, the next-gen mini versions of me (look out world)! I hate to bake, love to cook, possibly own too many pairs of cowboy boots, can find the humor in almost anything, and see hummingbirds almost everywhere I go.
My favorite topic to dive deep on is emotional intelligence - what it is, how it changes over time - and how leaders can integrate this skill into how they live and lead in their organization. I am in the process of writing a book to modernize how we think about and develop emotion-based skills to improve our work and life.
I can only choose one? Some stories I might share from the stage include:
- landing a job at 22 at the Pentagon working in high-profile offices by displaying empathy, deep listening, and a beginner's mindset
- predicting "the Great Resignation" in 2006 after a 2am conversation on the floor of a turkey production plant
- sharing stories and insights from the trenches of working with some of the best and worst places to work; what to avoid, how to float a sinking ship, and the power of bringing your full humanity to the workplace
- building a corporate (Fortune 500) innovation program that spurred millions of dollars in cost savings - and new revenue-generating products - in the span of 24 months
- why my parents almost went broke sending me to all of my preschool classmates' birthday parties
I've studied what makes great leaders and great organizational cultures for more than two decades, finding what drives and transforms the world of work no matter the industry, organization size, or market conditions. Advising and coaching C-suite leaders in government, nonprofit, and private sectors informs my perspective on the universal principles and approaches that helps leaders show up and lead at their best, even through adversity.
