My approach to public speaking is simple:
"You can present educational, thought provoking and motivating material while entertaining your audience."
My signature style ensures your event attendees remain engaged whether they are in-person, virtual, or listening via a livestream or podcast.
Oh do I have stories to tell. The youtube link below shares a great marketing case study (about halfway through) on what NOT to do when promoting an event. However, I think the personal story I have is one that captures a lot more attention:
I am a 2x heart attack survivor turned marathoner. At age 26 I crawled through the emergency room doors having a heart attack with no risk factors known at the time. I had been training for my first half marathon at the time. One month later I had my second.
Since then I have been an outspoken advocate and speaker on behalf of the American Heart Association sharing my story to educate about the signs, symptoms and risk of heart disease, particularly in women and raise money for AHA research.
My heart attacks only furthered my dedication to running. I have since run 14 half marathons and ran my first (of 9+) full marathon in November 2021 to commemorate my 10-year heart-iversary. The lessons I learned through those experiences (heart attacks & long distance running) have served me well in life and entrepreneurship.
Throughout my career, I had always worked in communications in some form. As I left one job to the next, I inadvertently built a freelance business doing whatever I was I had just left. For instance, I left a magazine to move into advertising and the magazine asked me to write on a freelance basis. I left advertising for marketing and my clients asked me to continue to create their campaigns. Those experiences combined and I thought: Hmmm… there’s a business in there somewhere.
So I incorporated and put a pin in it as I continued to pursue more education in Corporate America and learn from those far more experienced than me. All the while I knew, that this business I had created “DCM Communications” could one day be the way I make got the intellectual stimulation I knew I needed on a daily basis AND the flexible schedule I wanted as I raised a family.
Eventually, the time came where DCM started to look a whole hell of a lot more appealing than the job I had at the time for a manager with whom I did NOT see eye to eye. Yet still, I loved that steady paycheck so I couldn’t take the leap just yet.
Then, I got shoved off a cliff, figuratively of course. I took getting laid off, a casualty of a recent acquisition, as a sign that the time had come to take DCM full time. So I did and it’s been the best decision ever.
For decades women have been fighting to get a seat at the table. How do we get there and stay there? By speaking (and leveling) UP!
You have something to say and this talk will make sure people listen when you say it.
Whether you’re trying to get your foot in the door with a prospective client, sell an idea in a meeting or secure the promotion you’ve worked for, this session will give you the tangible steps and talking points to make it happen.
Attendees will walk away knowing how to:
→ Hook the audience to book the meeting
→ Confidently convey an idea
→ Keep the audience’s attention throughout the pitch
→ Close the deal…effectively! (Or…identify when it’s time to walk away)
You have VALUE. It’s time to make sure they hear it.
It’s time to Speak. Up.
Channing Muller is not what you’d expect as a poster child for heart disease, yet that’s precisely what she is. Well, that and a survivor of heart disease. At just 26 years old she experienced two heart attacks, one month apart.
A recreational runner, vegetarian for more than a decade and still she found herself crawling through an emergency room door, not knowing what exactly had gone wrong with her heart.
Come to hear her inspiring story where she shares:
→ What exactly happened and the warning signs that could save your (or a loved one’s) life
→ The top six life lessons learned on the path from that first emergency room visit to the seventh (and counting!) marathon finish line
→ The four mantras that have reduced her anxiety and fueled her forward momentum
→ How she applies those hard-learned lesson to her personal and professional life
…AND how you can too!
(Without the whole “have a heart attack and figure out how to run a marathon” portion.)
