Robyn Frank and Eliesa Johnson are the co-hosts of The Sandwich Generation Pod, a podcast and growing community dedicated to the millions of adults navigating one of life's most overlooked roles: raising children while caring for aging parents.
As mothers, daughters, entrepreneurs, and family caregivers, Robyn and Eliesa know firsthand what it means to juggle school drop-offs, doctor's appointments, legal paperwork, career demands, and the emotional weight of caring for multiple generations at once. After finding themselves unexpectedly thrust into the "sandwich generation," they launched their podcast to create the honest conversations they couldn't find anywhere else.
Known for blending practical advice with humor and refreshing candor, Robyn and Eliesa speak on caregiving, caregiver burnout, workplace wellbeing, resilience, and the realities facing today's sandwich generation. Their presentations combine personal storytelling, audience engagement, and actionable strategies that leave attendees feeling seen, supported, and equipped to navigate caregiving with greater confidence. They believe laughter is the best medicine, because if you're not going to laugh through this time in life, you're going to cry.
Whether speaking to corporate employee resource groups, healthcare organizations, senior living communities, or caregiving conferences, Robyn and Eliesa help organizations start the conversations that matter, because caregiving isn't a niche issue anymore; it's a workplace issue, a family issue, and a community issue.
Their mission is simple: make caregiving feel less lonely, one conversation (and many laughs and some tears) at a time.
We're passionate about making caregiving less lonely!
Too often, people caring for aging parents and raising young children feel like they're the only ones barely holding it together. We love creating spaces, whether through our podcast, on stage or online, where people can laugh, nod in recognition, and finally say, "Oh my gosh, me too."
Nothing makes us happier than seeing someone leave a conversation feeling lighter than when they walked in. If we can help people have one difficult family conversation, ask for help a little sooner, or simply laugh at the absurdity of putting milk in the washing machine (it happens!), we've done our job. We also deeply believe in building a village around the caregiving years so you are fully supported when you need it the most.
We believe honesty builds connection, humor builds resilience, and community helps us carry what none of us were meant to carry alone ♡
I remember the day I realized I had become "the adult."
I got a call at 5:00am because my mom had wandered outside in the frigid cold of a winter morning in Minnesota. She was really starting to show the first signs of Alzheimer's. My daughter was beside me, sick in bed, and my husband was away on a work trip. I realized in that moment that I was the person in the middle of it all, who everybody needed at once! And I thought to myself, "How can I possibly be responsible? What do I do?"
That moment is what the sandwich generation feels like. It's not simply being busy; it's carrying the emotional weight of two generations who depend on you while wondering who's taking care of you on the daily. This phase of life isn't just one moment or a sprint, it's truly a marathon!
I realized that this was one of the loneliness, most stressful moments I have ever had. And I wondered, "Is there anyone else going through this? I can't be the only one!" That's how I started asking questions and frankly, I couldn't find a lot of solid resources. Which brings me and Eliesa to where we are today. Building our community and sharing our experiences far and wide.
We didn't set out to become podcasters. Honestly, we were just trying to survive!
In 2021, life hit us both at full speed. Between the pandemic, newborn babies, and parents whose health was suddenly declining, we were both trying to figure out how to care for everyone else while quietly falling apart ourselves.
A mutual friend saw what we couldn't. She looked at us and said, "You two are living the exact same life. You need to talk!"
Almost immediately, our conversations turned into therapy sessions. We realized we weren't the only ones living this impossible balancing act. Millions of people are part of the sandwich generation, yet so many feel like they're carrying it alone. We're so tired of the word 'resources'. While there is a lot of information out there, we wanted to hear from or talk to people who have real experience in this space.
We like to use the example of having a baby. When you welcome your first child, friends and family come out of the woodwork to offer advice, come over for help and even come over to fold your laundry so you can take a nap. When you enter The Sandwich Generation, you need the same support, but people are not as open or willing to talk about it - or even know how to offer help - because it can be so heavy.
That's why we started our podcast and speaking engagements to engage community, open the conversation and inspire those going through this phase in life that we are all in this together and ready to help!
