Biography

Meet Judy M. Baker, Creator of the Buzzworthy Book Experience and the BEES Book Marketing Method. She helps nonfiction authors turn their books into business assets, find their hive, and become more visible, memorable, and profitable.

A publishing strategist, speaker, and author committed to supporting authors—particularly business owners, coaches, and consultants who love expanding their influence and earnings through building relationships.

Going beyond the book with authentic, value-based conversations.

Since 2011, Judy has given authors a new perspective on their books, shifting the focus from fleeting “bestseller” status to building a lasting legacy and a sustainable business. She understands that the thought of aggressive marketing feels bad and lacks authenticity. She specializes in collaborating to craft genuinely effective action steps and strategies that deliver lasting results.

Judy helps authors with:
Sharing through stories: Finding the core message that resonates with readers.
Building connections: The value of a deep understanding of the needs of their audience.
Creating community: Staying in touch and fostering meaningful relationships.
Synchronized marketing strategies: Providing simple yet strategic tactics that amplify your message, build sales, and grow your impact and opportunities.

Passion

Driven by a desire to infuse authenticity into the often daunting world of marketing, Judy cares deeply about helping authors find their unique voices and build genuine connections with their audiences. She believes every book is a seed for growth, and her mission is to guide authors in nurturing their ideas into thriving businesses.

Best Story

Judy M. Baker studied drama before she studied publishing, and it shows the moment she steps in front of a room. She reads an audience the way a director reads a scene: who is leaning in, who is drifting, who arrived with a question they haven't worked up the nerve to ask.

On September 22, 2024, she was the featured speaker at the Sacramento branch of the California Writers Club, with a talk called "Writers and Robots: Using AI for Storytelling and Selling." She didn't pitch the technology. She didn't just demonstrate the evolving tools; she explained the strategy, why authors can leverage AI instead of succumbing to it, and showed how the right tools enhance an author's voice, not replace it. The room leaned in.

That is how she teaches everything. Judy M. Baker doesn't sell an idea from the stage; she shows the mechanics of it, using the same BEES Book Marketing System she built for her mentoring clients.

She has written or contributed to over 20 books. Decades in independent publishing. Past president of both Redwood Writers and the Bay Area Independent Publishers Association, and host of the Indie Authors Tell All podcast.

Known as the Queen Bee of Book Marketing, she works with nonfiction authors — coaches, consultants, speakers, and experts — who want their book to keep earning long after launch week. No gimmicks. No bestseller chasing.

Audiences leave with a clearer sense of which door their book was built to open.

Origin Story

Judy's journey began at 16 when she published her first book, marking the start of a lifelong passion for publishing. Her plot twist came when she faced a diagnosis of ovarian cancer, an experience that revealed her resilience but also sharpened her commitment to supporting fellow authors in overcoming their own hurdles.

From Invisible to Irresistible: The Buzzworthy Way to Get Your Book Noticed

Most nonfiction authors do the hard part first. They write the book, publish it, and then wait for the right people to find it. Waiting is not a strategy, and neither is posting more often. This session gives authors the missing piece: a repeatable way to become the obvious choice in the rooms where their readers, clients, and event organizers already gather. Judy M. Baker walks the audience through the four pillars of her BEES Book Marketing System: brand the book so it says something specific, expand its reach beyond the people who already know you, engage the audience you attract, and build on what works instead of starting over each quarter.

Attendees leave with language they can use immediately, a short list of the doors their book is actually built to open, and a clear-eyed view of which marketing activities earn attention and which only feel productive. Judy M. Baker draws on decades in independent publishing and more than 20 books she has written or contributed to, so the examples come from real launches — including the ones that stalled. She names what went wrong and what fixed it. Organizers can expect an interactive session with concrete takeaways, no gimmicks, and no bestseller chasing. The result for the audience: a book that keeps opening doors long after launch week.

Runs 45–60 minutes with Q&A; adapts to a 20-minute keynote or a half-day workshop.
